Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos)

The male mallard duck has a bottle-green coloured head. In contrast the female is a mottled-brown colour. Both are common on local rivers and ponds – sometimes with over ten ducklings in tow.

Great crested newt (Triturus cristatus)

Great crested newts are amphibians and are the largest of the three species of newt here in the UK. They have dark browny-black, warty skin and can grow up to 15 cm in length.

Mole (Talpa europaea)

This small mammal spends most of its time underground burrowing its tunnels with its large spade-like paws and looking for its favourite food - earthworms. You may however spot its molehills above ground.

Brown hare (Lepus europaeus)

With its attractive golden-brown coat, and white tail, the brown hare is larger than the rabbit, with longer legs and longer ears which have distinctive black tips. Its young are called ‘leverets’.

Speckled wood butterfly (Pararge aegeria) 

The speckled wood butterfly has brown wings which are adorned with a beautiful pattern of creamy circles called ‘eyespots’. It likes partially shaded woodlands and dappled sunlight.
