In this episode, I sit down with Shareef Al Romaithi, a former Etihad Airlines pilot who traded the cockpit for the cosmos. After two near-misses with the UAE astronaut program, he founded Madari Space - a startup building a constellation of data centers in low Earth orbit, backed by the UAE government and set to launch its first mission in 2027.

Every time a plane takes off, it burns fuel. Real, liquid fuel. Not batteries. And that's not changing anytime soon. Planes, cargo ships, factories: nearly a third of global CO2 emissions come from industries that simply can't "go electric."

My guest today is Florian Hildebrand, mechanical engineer, serial entrepreneur, and someone who walked away from a software company he scaled to 200+ people and €80M raised, because he felt the pull to work on something that actually mattered.

Together with a researcher who spent 15 years developing the tech in a German university lab, Florian is building a way to pull CO2 straight from the air, store it in a crystal (think: a battery, but for carbon), combine it with green hydrogen, and turn it into synthetic fuel. Fuel that runs in a Boeing 737 with zero modifications to the engine or the airport.

We talk about the science, the economics of bankability, why hydrogen planes aren't the answer (yet), and what a world of energy abundance instead of scarcity could actually look like.
