UFC 324 was ravaged by injury before it ever got off the ground. A few weeks out, we lost Kayla Harrison vs. Amanda Nunes. On weigh-in day, after successfully making weight, Cameron Smotherman stepped off the scale, took a few steps and then faceplanted, busting open his chin which ended up requiring stitches. This morning, just hours before the event’s kickoff, we lost yet another bout, this time due to suspicious betting activity which later revealed Alexander Hernandez was injured, so his bout vs. Michael Johnson was canceled. Rocky start to a billion-dollar-per-year deal.

The card itself was pretty good, with the prelims seeing four straight finishes. Considering that the bonuses have doubled now, and there’s added incentive ($25K bonus for all finishes that didn’t already earn a standard bonus) to get a finish, perhaps a fire has been lit under our modern day gladiators. And may I just say that the old guys really do find some magical reserves because Nikita Krylov certainly did.

The rest of the fights, save one, went the distance, with Silva-Namajunas being closer than I thought it would be. Nurmagomedov predictably routed Figueiredo, as O’Malley did with Song Yadong. The lone finish was Cortes-Acosta sending Derrick Lewis to the land of banana peels and loss.

Gaethje-Pimblett was an absolute banger—not exactly a classic, mainly because there was an abundance of chicanery with eye-pokes, low blows and just wild striking, but still very good. Paddy has no quit in him and Justin can still crack. It was very clear that the significant strikes were very different for these gents, with Gaethje’s being far more impactful. Oh yeah, some brave person put $1.3M on Paddy to win, so there’s that.

Now that we’ve reviewed the highlights, let’s check out the results and bonuses while we’re here.

Justin Gaethje was counted out by many heading into his last opportunity to capture a UFC title belt, and he proved all of the doubters wrong, hurting and knocking down Paddy Pimblett several times to capture the interim lightweight title in the main event of UFC 324.

Following the first UFC event of 2026, and of the new UFC on Paramount era, MMA Fighting's Mike Heck and Jed Meshew react to Gaethje's punishing performance, discuss what they learned about both fighters, Pimblett's eye-opening toughness, Gaethje likely facing Ilia Topuria next, and where Arman Tsarukyan stands. Additionally, they react to Sean O'Malley's bounce-back win over Song Yadong in the co-main event, how the first Paramount event came across, bonus winners, and much more.

We’re back in beautiful (frozen) Montréal for a two night event. We start the weekend with SmackDown and tomorrow get Saturday Night’s Main Event.

If this was meant to be a polite “go-home” show for Saturday Night’s Main Event, someone forgot to tell SmackDown. There was little on this show to help setup Saturday’s show.

Hopefully things will get better for tonight?

The UFC is back, and not only is it the start of 2026, it’s the start of a new era.

On Saturday, UFC 324 goes down at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, headlined by an interim lightweight title fight between Justin Gaethje and Paddy Pimblett. The card is not just the first of 2026, but the first of the UFC’s new broadcast deal with Paramount, including a new, earlier start time. Will Gaethje and Pimblett put the UFC’s best foot forward for their new deal? And what about the rest of the card?

Ahead of Saturday’s big event, MMA Fighting’s Jed Meshew and Alexander K. Lee preview UFC 324 and interim title fight between Gaethje and Pimblett, and what it means for the lightweight division as a whole. Additionally, Meshew and Lee discuss the co-main event bout between Sean O’Malley and Song Yadong and whether O’Malley is fighting for a title shot, the stakes in the feature bout between Waldo Cortes-Acosta and Derrick Lewis, the title eliminator bout between Natalia Silva and Rose Namajunas, answer fan questions, and more.
