Chattanooga Mocs offensive lineman McClendon Curtis is a lot of things. He’s an enormous presence on and off the field.

He joins host Chris Goforth on this week’s episode of Mocs on the Mic presented by SmartBank.

Curtis is an NFL prospect and one of the top offensive linemen in FCS football. He’s also a great student – Dean’s List, Grad Student & Tutor in Student Support Services.

McClendon is a Chattanooga native and all-around good guy. On top of all that, he was just named to a select NCAA appointment as one of three FCS student-athletes on a 12-man committee.

Tennis anyone?

Head coaches Chad Camper and Chuck Merzbacher along with men’s tennis player Kerim Hyatt join host Chris Goforth for this week’s episode of Mocs on the Mic presented by SmartBank.

Camper begins his sixth season with the women’s team and will kick off the fall season this weekend at the JSU Fall Event. Senior Emma Van Hee returns to lead the team this season. She ranks sixth all-time at UTC in singles wind and eighth in doubles. She is joined by six returners and three newcomers.

The men, led by Merzbacher in his fifth season, started fall play last weekend at the UNCG Invite. Kerim Hyatt led the team with a perfect 4-0 mark in the three-day event. Coming up are the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals and the ITA All-American Championships. Six Mocs return to the court this season.

Ryan Jones, the Associate Athletics Director for Development joins Chris Goforth on this week’s episode of Mocs on the Mic presented by SmartBank.

On this week's Mocs on the Mic with Chris Goforth presented by SmartBank, the Mocs soccer head coach Gavin McKinney and junior forward Samantha Shaw give an update on the season and preview the Mocs Tennessee match on Sunday, Sept. 12.

McKinney takes a look back at the previous matches and how they help going forward. With a pair of ranked SEC foes in the rearview mirror, he talks how those matches will help the Mocs who host the No. 19 Lady Vols Sunday at the UTC Sports Complex. Shaw, with all of Chattanooga’s goals so far this season, was just named the SoCon Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Month for August. She talks teammates and looking forward to the remainder of the season.

Neill, a 6-2 middle blocker, enters her second season on the squad. Last season, she made 13 starts and recorded 69 kills. This season will be Filar’s 11th at the helm of the program.

The 2021 indoor volleyball schedule features 11 home regular season matches, including the Chattanooga Classic and eight Southern Conference contests in Maclellan Gym. The Mocs open preseason play with an exhibition vs. Georgia State at home on August 20 at 6 p.m.

This week’s Mocs on the Mic presented by Smartbank features the brothers Caldwell. Dominic and A.J.’s Scenic City Reunion came a year after Dom’s transfer from FIU.

Dom, a QB, joined the Mocs in 2017. His first pass was complete for a touchdown that season. He was a backup to Nick Tiano during his career and worked on special teams developing as a long snapper. He’s working on his Master’s degree and is an offensive quality control coach on Rusty Wright’s staff.

His younger brother A.J., came in the summer of 2018. He was a transfer from South Alabama. He’s proven to be a valued chess piece for Lamont Paris on the basketball floor contributing as both a reserve and starter during his career. He’ll be forever remembered for his buzzer-beater at ETSU this past February.

McKinney and host Chris Goforth preview the upcoming soccer season that includes matches against three SEC foes. The Mocs will open preseason play with a scrimmage at Vanderbilt and take on Auburn on the road and Tennessee at home in the regular season.

The Mocs are coming off their best season in program history with a third place finish in the Southern Conference standings. Team records are in the books despite a shortened season that was played in the spring.
