Welcome to the Modern Genealogy Podcast - I’m your host Megan Hillyer. I’m a wife and mother of seven with a degree in Family History Research and am on a mission to help you experience the joy of connecting with your ancestors.
The Prophet Joseph Smith said, “The greatest responsibility in this world that God has laid upon us is to seek after our dead.”
In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we are taught the importance of temple and family history work, but we aren’t always taught how to actually do it!
For years I have been interested in doing family history work. I was eager to have regular family history work be a part of my life. Every time I would go onto FamilySearch.org though, my eagerness got a little squashed. I would feel overwhelmed and wasn’t sure where to even start. I knew that family history work was important, but didn’t know what to do about it.
I finally followed the prompting I had had for years to get a degree in Family History Research. As soon as I started learning about the research process, I KNEW that I needed to share this with people like me -- women and mothers who know the power of family history work, but don’t know where to begin.
I hope you will follow along here where I will share skills and tools I’ve learned about family history work and interviews with other experts and enthusiasts. As you learn and seek for your ancestors, you will be able to connect with them and experience the power of those eternal connections.
