"And believe me, the sweet potato pie was so good that if you was to step in it and walk through it, you could feel it between your toes and you would just sense that aroma from that pie and it would just, you know, melt in your mouth. It was that good. My grandmother had some of the best old fashioned recipes that were available today for bacon and making certain things. Just about anything that she cooked was good because everything was made from scratch."

"My mom passed away 24 years ago. It'll be 25 in a month. Almost a quarter of a century she's been gone. And there is so much I want to say to her and wish I could see her to say it. How much I love her and how much I am sorry that I took her for granted as a teenager, because I know she did the best for me and I know she loved me. But I was really harsh on her and I shouldn't have been."

"It's not really a bad day per se, but it's a day that I sit and I reflect a little bit because I'm just gonna say I was the product of an affair. My biological parents were never married. I, like I said, I was the product of essentially what was what I believe a one night stand. And that obviously you can, you know, maybe think of what might, you know, lead. What might lead. Let me back up."

"Wow. I mean, I think I could say so much about my mom. I just love her so much. And I think I'm trying to think about what lesson my mom would like me to say I got from her. I know that my mom and I are very, very similar people. So I think she's influenced me in so many ways that are completely unconscious and that I don't even realize that she's done."

"What a beautiful question. I think everything and anything that I am today is because of her. The woman taught me to be resilient, to be resolute, to be kind, to be humble, to be able to say, I don't know. I think that is the biggest thing that I learned from her. Her level of humility in admitting that she's wrong. It doesn't matter whether she was apologizing to a person much younger than her or older than her."

"You know, I don't think my mother really ever found out who she truly was, but I really do think that she wanted her children in her heart to know who they are and to stand up on it. But, you know, the laughter and just being able to understand everybody, no matter the situation, that's something I inherited from both my parents."
