The children’s publishing industry has long neglected the stories and voices of Black, brown, indigneous, Muslim, Jewish, disabled, transgender and queer peoples - and so many more groups. In this episode, Laura Gruppo, a mom of two, librarian-in-training, and founder of the Instagram account, Laura’s Little Bookshelf, shares what she’s learned about diversity in children’s literature, why books should serve as both “mirrors” and “windows,” and what to do about offensive books. She also shares some of her favorite books and resources. For more recommendations, follow her on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/lauraslittlebookshelf/ (@LaurasLittleBookshelf).
