Confessions of a Parent Coach

Mommy Doesn't Know Best

Listen Later

When my kids were little, and I started parenting work, this was the basic approach I learned: Parents know best. We run the show using loving discipline. The end. But good parenting is more than just discipline! We are in a relationship, and if we focus on discipline but miss the back-and-forth of a true relationship with our kids, we end up bulldozing them and pushing them away. In this week’s episode of the podcast, I show you how to expand your parenting beyond discipline by staying open to the possibility that you might not know best. It’s all about COMMUNICATION. In April, you have two chances to attend a workshop that will change your connection with your child: In Words That Work, you will learn what to say (and what NOT to say) to address behavior and keep your relationship strong so your parenting is a 2-way street. This is a FREE workshop with two chances to attend (Sunday, 5/7, at 7 PM MTN, or Monday, 5/8, at 12 Noon MTN). Replays will be available, but you definitely want to come live if at all possible. This workshop is for anyone wanting to eliminate arguments, backtalk, lectures, and one-sided conversations. The most common ways we speak to our children only end up pushing them away.
