We take a look at what it takes to be a good missionary, as well as just a good teacher. Some great principles that can work both outside and inside our homes even today!

June 15-21 "Enter into the Rest of the Lord" 

Here's to all the mommies out there looking at the already eons long summer break and wondering how we're going to survive this one. This week's episode is coming out pretty late with a thousand apologies dear patient mommies. With a sick baby there's really not much quiet time to record during so I hope this light episode can still help in some capacity. 

This week we talk about Amulek's sacrifices, and what blessings he gained from allowing Alma to change his life through the gospel. Enter into the rest of the Lord this week and keep your eyes out for all the times Amulek mentions sneaky ways the Lord has blessed his and his family's lives.

June 8-14 "Jesus Christ Will Come to Redeem His People"

This week, we get to study the origins of Alma and Amulek. This best friend pair who were brought together because God loved the people of Ammonihah so much despite their wickedness. Alma learned that not every city could be taught the same way. Doesn't that sound a lot like parenting? Just as each of our children are taught in different ways, so are we taught the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a number of ways. 

I also would like to offer up apologies for getting a little close to home in this episode, if it makes you uncomfortable. But if we don't talk about the issues facing us today in relation to our scripture study, then what is the Book of Mormon for? Please be kind to one another right now. Watch out for instances of racism or people being put down in your community. We need love now more than ever. We need meekness and gentleness more too. Blessed are the peacemakers, after all.

June 1-7 "Have Ye Experienced a Mighty Change in Your Hearts?"

My heart feels like it has been broken a few too many times in these past months. This is a frightening time for us all. I've never been more impressed by the timeliness of these Come Follow Me lessons than this week.

We talk about changing one's heart and just what we need to do to induce such a transformation. Alma gives us a slew of personal interview questions we can ask ourselves to learn if we are doing enough. This week's study session gets a little real as I mention how the lesson correlates to the pain and anguish felt in the United States, and indeed the world, this week. 

Please be kind, the world is in so much pain there's no more room for xenophobia and racism. God does not judge based on skin color or social status, we have no right to do such a thing in order to build our own frail platform to stand on. I am part of the problem, as I'm sure so many millions more are, where I stay silent because I am paralyzed by the fact that I do not understand enough to be able to contribute. That is going to end this week. As a parent now, I understand more than ever the importance to teach children what prejudices look like, what racism does, and how it can break hearts and end lives. I'm going to do better, and I would love to hear any suggestions you have for making this change in my home.

May 25-31 "They Were Steadfast and Immovable"

Did you know the Book of Mormon tells us about the importance of voting and being a citizen of our communities? This week we learn about the government reforming from a monarchy to a system of judges, and it gets thrown into the deep end in it's fledgling years. The Lord wants us to love others as we love Him, and that includes those whose opinions differ from ours. In my study session I loved seeing all the examples of people exemplifying "True Religion" by caring for the people first. The Lord thinks of each of us as individuals, so by loving people we are loving God.

May 18 - 24 "They Were Called The People of God"

You have probably read about Alma the Younger's Conversion Coma. But have you thought about what you would do if he was your son, and you were Alma the Elder? What do we do when the "rising generation" loses faith? This week we get to see some special examples of family conflict resolution and faith building practices from the likes of Alma and Mosiah and their boys.

May 11 "We Have Entered Into a Covenant With Him"

This week we start with the lovely beginnings of Alma as a prophet of God. As Alma begins teaching, preaching, and doing the best hidden missionary work he can, we see how Heavenly Father supports him and the others he brings to the light of the gospel. Alma lays out in simple terms just what a member of the church is expected to do; such as comforting and mourning with others and supporting each other temporally and spiritually here on earth.

May 4-10 "A Light... That Can Never Be Darkened"

Who's ready to have a fire lit under them? Not like Abinadi did, but with a fiery testimony that could spark many others throughout your life! We get to talk more about how our testimonies aren't just built for us, but as a foundation for others around us. We even get to chatting about how Jesus Christ can be both the Father and the Son in the scriptures. Join me, won't you?

May 3 "In the Strength of the Lord"

Ever know what it's like to make a wrong decision and feel stuck with the consequences? This week we talk about the people of Zeniff and on to Limhi and how they were affected by some decisions they didn't make themselves. Sounds a lot like today's world with this pandemic, am I right? Thankfully, they had the good sense to rely on the Lord and his strength. And hopefully we will too.

April 13 - 26 "Filled with the Love of God Towards All Men" & "A Mighty Change"

Since I'm playing catch up, I squished two weeks of lessons into one episode! We will talk about the "original General Conference" with King Benjamin. And about how much it transformed the souls who heard it. 

I'm slowly getting back on track, hopefully I'll be able to get one more episode published this week so we can all get a study session or two in for this week. Heaven knows we need it in times like today. 

Please stay safe and be well! I'm sure all you mommies out there like me are ready to tear your hair out from being stuck inside with your kids, but we are doing our best here and that's all we can do. I see you mommies, and you are the most attractive set of top knotted, yoga pants clad soldiers in this fight!
