Before I became a mother myself, I’d often ask the courteous questions one is supposed to ask, including the one about how it was all going. The answers were all relatively the same: “She’s great! I’m so in love! We love being parents! The sun shines out of her sweet, little butt!” Because the truth is, when people ask that question, it’s sort of what they expect to hear. And it’s what you feel obligated to tell them.
