This week on NEWS.MC TV, we bring you the top stories from Monaco, starting with the Principality taking a major step forward in economic and social reform. On April 3, the National Council passed three key bills designed to strengthen the Principality’s business environment and tackle housing challenges, reaffirming its long-term vision for balanced development.
In a glamorous nod to global diplomacy, Flavio Briatore was officially named Monaco’s Goodwill Ambassador 2025 during a gala event at the Hôtel de Paris on April 4. The evening, held in the presence of HSH Prince Albert II, celebrated Briatore’s international influence and his close ties with the Principality.
Tennis history was made on April 5 as Court No.2 at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters was renamed Court Elizabeth-Ann de Massy, paying tribute to the late Baroness’s unwavering dedication to the sport and her pivotal role in promoting tennis both in Monaco and beyond.
The Principality came together in solemn remembrance on April 6 to mark twenty years since the passing of Prince Rainier III. Known as the “Builder Prince,” Rainier transformed Monaco during his 56-year reign, laying the foundations for the modern state we know today.
On the same weekend, the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters served up its first matches with a full house and star-studded draw. The tournament got underway on April 5, following the traditional draw ceremony at the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel, signalling the return of one of tennis’s most scenic and prestigious events.
Looking ahead to another iconic sporting event, more than 650 race marshals—Monaco’s famous “orange army”—gathered for a high-tech training session ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix. This year’s prep includes AI-powered simulations to sharpen reflexes and enhance race safety.
Getting around the Principality is also getting a 21st-century upgrade. On April 8, Monaco launched the Taxi Monaco app, a new digital service that allows users to book rides in real time, aiming to make transport more efficient for both residents and visitors.
In basketball, the Roca Team held their nerve on April 10 to defeat Asvel 78–83, locking in fourth place and securing vital home-court advantage for the EuroLeague playoffs. A strong showing from the free-throw line sealed the win in the final moments.
And in this week’s exclusive interview, we sit down with Justin Highman, Deputy CEO of the Monaco Economic Board. He shares insights into the Principality’s evolving business landscape, the push for innovation, and what makes Monaco a uniquely resilient economy in a fast-changing world.
