This week, NEWS.MC TV brings you the latest developments from Monaco, beginning with a celebration of solidarity as the 26th edition of No Finish Line was honoured at a ceremony on January 14 at the Rainier III Auditorium. Attended by Minister of Social Affairs and Health Christophe Robino, the event highlighted another record-breaking year of community engagement and charitable commitment in the Principality.
The political agenda then comes into focus, as Minister of State Christophe Mirmand set out Monaco’s key priorities for 2026 during a New Year address to the press on January 16. Joined by members of the Government, he outlined major projects that will shape the year ahead, including the transformation of the Fontvieille shopping centre and significant upgrades to waste sorting and energy recovery facilities.
On the diplomatic front, Monaco’s international presence was reinforced in Paris, where Minister of Foreign Relations and Cooperation Isabelle Berro-Amadeï addressed members of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps based in France during a ceremony at the Shangri-La Hotel. That same day, Monaco also renewed its long-standing partnership with UNESCO, signing a new four-year cooperation agreement covering the period from 2026 to 2029.
Culture took centre stage as the 48th International Festival of the Cirque de Monte-Carlo opened beneath the iconic Fontvieille Big Top. Held in the presence of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II and Princess Stéphanie, the opening night once again underlined Monaco’s deep-rooted bond with the world of circus arts.
The week also saw a significant moment on the international stage, as Prince Albert II paid an official visit to the Vatican, where he was received in private audience by Pope Leo XIV. Their discussions touched on peace, environmental responsibility and respect for life, reflecting shared humanitarian values.
Motorsport fans were treated to a spectacular launch of the 2026 World Rally Championship at Port Hercule, where crews were presented to the public ahead of the Monte Carlo Rally. The ceremony, attended by Prince Albert II and Automobile Club de Monaco President Michel Boeri, officially set the tone for the new WRC season.
Monaco’s economic visibility was further enhanced in Davos, with the return of Monaco Day on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum. The Principality transformed the venue into “Monaco House” for a full day of high-level discussions on sustainability, finance, the blue economy and human capital, featuring 24 international speakers.
Closer to home, the Monaco Economic Board held its 55th Members’ Meeting at Jimmy’z nightclub, drawing record attendance and showcasing the MEB’s ambitious 2026 programme, including the upcoming Monaco Energy Storage Forum with strong international participation.
Security was also in the spotlight as Director of Public Security Eric Arella delivered his New Year address, confirming that Monaco remains one of the safest places in Europe, with just over 1,000 offences recorded in 2025 and no major crimes reported.
On the sports front, the Roca Team endured a challenging week, seeing their winning streak end after a dramatic overtime loss to Red Star Belgrade, before suffering a heavy away defeat to EuroLeague heavyweights Real Madrid, bringing their recent momentum to a halt.
