During an event held on May the 21st, residents shared their experiences of relocating to Monaco, pointing to the Principality’s stability, security, business opportunities and quality of life as major factors behind its growing international appeal.

Entrepreneurship also took centre stage as the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation hosted the second edition of the Young Entrepreneur Awards on May the 21st. Five start-ups from Monaco and the French Riviera were recognised during the ceremony, with a total of seventy thousand euros awarded to support innovation and local job creation.

Diplomatic activity intensified in the Principality as Monaco welcomed around sixty parliamentarians from across Europe for the Standing Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on May the 22nd. Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene received delegates at the Prince’s Palace as discussions focused on European cooperation, democracy and media freedom.

Economic reform and international standards were the focus of the latest Eco Monaco conference organised by the Monaco Economic Board and Nice-Matin at Monacotech on May the 22nd. Business leaders and institutional representatives examined how compliance reforms linked to Monaco’s FATF grey list status are reshaping the Principality’s economic environment.

Sporting action arrived at the Louis II Stadium as the 43rd Monte-Carlo International Swimming Meeting welcomed many of the world’s leading athletes as part of the Mare Nostrum tour. Several records fell during the competition, including standout performances from Hong Kong swimmer Siobhan Haughey in the freestyle events.

At the Caserne des Moneghetti, Monaco’s newest Carabiniers officially joined the Compagnie des Carabiniers du Prince during a formal ceremony on May the 26th. Monaco followed an 81-75 home victory with an impressive 114-103 win away at Ekinox to seal the series and continue their pursuit of another domestic title.

On May 13, rising violin star Aozhe Zhang, winner of the 2025 Premio Paganini, performed alongside the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra in a special concert held at the initiative of Albert II, ambassador of the Paganini Foundation.

Monaco’s gastronomic calendar also got underway in style as the sixth edition of the Monte-Carlo Festival of Stars opened at Blue Bay Marcel Ravin. Michelin-starred chefs Marcel Ravin and Glenn Viel collaborated on an exceptional four-hands dinner blending Caribbean and Mediterranean influences.

Financial and legal matters were in focus at the Maison de France on May 14, where the Union des Français de l’Étranger hosted a conference examining French taxation rules for residents living in the Principality. The event addressed evolving fiscal obligations, residency requirements and taxation on French-based assets.

On the international stage, Monaco officially assumed the six-month presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe during the organisation’s 135th ministerial session in Chișinău on May 15. On May 7, the Sovereign visited Montrésor, highlighting the legacy of Imbert de Bathernay, adviser to four French kings and a historical figure connected to the Grimaldi family.

Business and employment issues were also in focus this week as Monaco’s Junior Chamber of Commerce hosted a breakfast conference dedicated to recent labour law reforms. Held at the Méridien Beach Plaza on May 7, the discussion centred on Monaco’s new framework for negotiated contract terminations, bringing together legal specialists and business leaders.

The following day, Prince Albert II continued his heritage tour with visits to Bridoré and Saumur, retracing family ties that link Monaco with key regions of France and reinforcing the Principality’s historical connections beyond its borders.

Monaco also paused to remember the end of the Second World War in Europe during commemorations marking Victory in Europe Day on May 8. A ceremony at the Maison de France gathered officials, diplomats and members of the French community under the leadership of Ambassador Jean d’Haussonville.

At the Yacht Club de Monaco, floral artistry took centre stage during the 57th International Bouquet Competition. Environmental and wildlife protection also featured prominently this week. On May 11, Princess Charlene took part in the release of a young falcon in the Alpes-Maritimes after months of rehabilitation following severe injuries sustained near Nice Airport last year.

Prince Albert II received one of the French military’s most symbolic distinctions on April the 30th, when he was named an Honorary Corporal of the French Foreign Legion during commemorations of the Battle of Camerone in Aubagne.

Monaco also celebrated culture and artistic achievement at the sixth edition of the Maria Callas Monaco Gala and Awards. Held at the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, the ceremony honoured leading figures from the arts while paying tribute to the legendary soprano’s historic connection to the Principality.

Young voices took centre stage as the 19th session of Monaco’s Youth Economic, Social and Environmental Council wrapped up on April the 30th. Thirty-five secondary school students presented a series of proposals focused on school life, culture and youth engagement in public debate.

On the international front, Monaco strengthened its ties with the United States through a new cooperation agreement signed with the America 250 Commission on May the 1st. The partnership aims to deepen collaboration in areas ranging from culture and environmental protection to education and space exploration.

Prince Albert II also travelled to Saint-Honorat Island on May the 2nd to attend a religious ceremony marking the arrival of a new abbot at the historic monastery, a site closely linked to Monaco’s heritage.

Former French Prime Minister Michel Barnier was in the Principality on May the 3rd for a conference organised by the Monaco Mediterranean Foundation. Speaking about Europe’s future, Barnier argued that the European Union must become more politically united if it wants to maintain influence on the global stage.

Environmental awareness set sail from Monaco this week as the historic yacht Wiki departed Port Hercule on a three-year Mediterranean expedition. The project, part of the Help Save the Med initiative, will combine scientific outreach, education and environmental advocacy across 24 countries and territories.

Prince Albert II also began a two-day visit to France on May the 6th, retracing historical links between the Grimaldi family and the village of Bathernay in the Drôme region.

Held at the historic site of Delphi, the international gathering brought together political, economic and intellectual leaders to discuss major global challenges.

Back in Monaco, the Sovereign Prince also took centre stage during the Monaco Historic Grand Prix, completing a ceremonial lap aboard the legendary Bugatti Type 41 Royale to mark the iconic model’s 100th anniversary.

The Historic Grand Prix also saw a dramatic moment involving former Formula One driver Jean Alesi, who escaped injury after crashing his Ferrari 312 during free practice on April 25th. Mechanics worked overnight to repair the damaged car, allowing Alesi to return to the circuit.

In the luxury sector, Monaco Legend Group reported strong results from its Exclusive Timepieces auction, generating €26.47 million in sales with an impressive 98.3 percent sell-through rate. The auction, held at the Le Méridien Beach Plaza, attracted collectors from around the world.

Meanwhile, the Principality’s cultural scene came alive with the opening of the Monaco Art Week on April 27th. Bringing together fourteen galleries and auction houses, the event showcases everything from modern design and jewellery to museum-quality artworks by internationally renowned artists.

Also on April 27th, Monaco’s Judicial Training Institute, the Institut Monégasque de Formation aux Professions Judiciaires, hosted a conference at Collège Charles III focusing on ethics in legal professions and Monaco’s international judicial responsibilities.

At Port Hercules, the historic French Navy schooner L'Étoile made a stop in Monaco as part of celebrations marking the 400th anniversary of the French Navy. Prince Albert II visited the vessel during its stay. Built in 1932, the ship continues to train young sailors through traditional seamanship.

Animal welfare also remained in focus this week as the Société Protectrice des Animaux de Monaco unveiled major upgrades to its shelter in the Alpes-Maritimes, including redesigned spaces aimed at improving comfort and reducing stress for rescued animals.
