This week on NEWS.MC TV, we bring you the latest stories from the Principality — a mix of innovation, sport, and celebration that captures Monaco at its dynamic best.

The 2025 Monte-Carlo E-Rally launched in style on October 15, as His Serene Highness Prince Albert II waved off 62 crews from Casino Square. Among the participants were Camille Gottlieb and Margot Grunstein, proudly representing the BAFE association in their campaign against drink-driving.

Also on October 15, Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene inaugurated SMEG’s newly expanded and modernised headquarters in Fontvieille. The Monégasque Society of Electricity and Gas now operates from a nine-storey, 11,000-square-metre building, marking 135 years of service to the Principality.

On October 17, Prince Albert II chaired a board meeting of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation before presenting the 2025 Planetary Health Awards. Three outstanding contributors were honoured for their work in preserving the planet and promoting sustainability.

A day later, on October 18, Princess Charlene paid a heartfelt tribute to Mireille Calmes, founder of Special Olympics Monaco, at a ceremony held at Stade Louis-II. A commemorative plaque was unveiled in Calmes’ honour, recognising her three decades of dedication to inclusion and empowerment for people with intellectual disabilities.

That same weekend, Monaco Legend Group opened the autumn auction season with record-breaking sales of €28.6 million at the Hôtel Méridien Beach Plaza. The event achieved a 97 percent sell-through rate, with international collectors driving fierce competition for rare timepieces. A Rolex reference 6062 moon phase in yellow gold sold for €5.33 million, setting a new record for the model and becoming the third most expensive Rolex ever sold.

Sportel Monaco brought together figures from across the global sports and media industries at the Grimaldi Forum this week. During his visit on October 20, Prince Albert II officially launched Team Monaco, the Principality’s entry into the E1 Series — the world’s first electric powerboat championship.

Later that evening, the 2025 Sportel Awards Gala lit up the Grimaldi Forum. Athletes, broadcasters, and special guests walked the blue carpet as awards were presented to celebrate excellence in sports storytelling, with Prince Albert II in attendance.

On October 21, Monaco’s fourth Breakfast Conference of the year was held at Le Méridien Beach Plaza, focusing on attracting and integrating new residents. Organised by the Junior Economic Chamber, the event gathered representatives from government, administration, and public safety to discuss Monaco’s ongoing efforts to enhance its appeal.

In football, AS Monaco were held to a frustrating 0–0 draw against Tottenham Hotspur at Stade Louis-II on October 22. Despite dominating the match and taking 23 shots, the team couldn’t find the net, though the result secured their first clean sheet of the season under new coach Sébastien Pocognoli.

Meanwhile, in EuroLeague basketball, AS Monaco fell 85–77 to Hapoel IBI Tel Aviv on October 23. After trailing early, the Roca Team fought back in the third quarter before being overtaken by a late surge from the visitors. Mike James, Daniel Theis and Elie Okobo led Monaco’s scoring efforts.

This week, NEWS.MC TV brings you the latest stories from the Principality of Monaco.

The Monaco Press Club welcomed legendary ocean activist Paul Watson on October 9 for a special conference at the Hôtel Métropole. Speaking to a packed audience, the founder of Sea Shepherd and co-founder of Greenpeace shared reflections on decades of environmental work, warning of the dangers of political inaction in the face of climate change and mass extinction.

Also on October 9, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II visited the Sporades archipelago in Greece as part of the Monaco Explorations Mediterranean mission. The trip underscored Monaco’s commitment to ocean protection, continuing the legacy of Prince Albert I’s 28 scientific expeditions.

Back in the Principality, Monaco renewed its vital partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross on October 10. The official visit by the ICRC President marked the renewal of a three-year funding agreement that reinforces Monaco’s role in global humanitarian support.

On the sporting front, Valentin Vacherot stunned the tennis world on October 12, defeating his cousin Arthur Rinderknech in an all-family final at the 2025 Shanghai Masters to claim his first ATP 1000 title. Celebrations erupted back home at the Monte-Carlo Country Club and Condamine Market, as fans cheered on the new Monegasque champion.

Meanwhile, Monaco hosted the third Red Cross and Red Crescent Leadership Meeting from October 12 to 14, bringing together representatives from 43 national societies across Europe and Central Asia. Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene attended the event, which focused on humanitarian strategy and leadership in times of crisis.

Culture took centre stage on October 13, as the U Cantin d’a Roca choir celebrated its 30th anniversary with a concert at the Condamine Market Hall. Founded in 1995 to preserve and promote the Monegasque language through song, the choir remains a cherished part of Monaco’s cultural identity.

Eight creative talents were honoured at the Prince Pierre Foundation Awards on October 14. Presided over by Her Royal Highness the Princess of Hanover, the ceremony at the Princely Palace recognised excellence in literature, music, contemporary art, and philosophy.

In politics, Monaco’s National Council approved the amended 2025 budget on October 15, transforming a projected €88.6 million deficit into an €86 million surplus. The revised figures were adopted with 17 votes in favour, four against, and three abstentions.

On the basketball court, the Roca Team delivered a statement win on October 12, overpowering reigning champions Paris 99–94 in a fiery Betclic Elite clash. Despite the ejection of Alpha Diallo, Monaco controlled the pace and sealed a convincing victory. However, just days later, they fell short in Bologna on October 15, losing 77–73 to Virtus after leading for most of the match.

In football, Sébastien Pocognoli was officially unveiled as the new AS Monaco head coach on October 14. The 41-year-old Belgian, signed through to 2027, brings an ambitious, youth-focused vision to the team.

On October 2, Slovak photographer Filip Kulisev unveiled his latest project Earth at the Oceanographic Museum, in the presence of Prince Albert II. The book and film present stunning images from across the planet, from Namibia’s deserts to Antarctica’s ice fields, inviting reflection on the Earth’s fragility. Prince Albert, who wrote the preface and narrated the film’s introduction, emphasised the urgent need for environmental protection.

On October 3, Prince Albert II attended the European Political Community summit in Copenhagen, where 47 leaders met to address Europe’s most pressing challenges. Discussions focused on security threats, drone incursions, and Russia’s “ghost fleet.” The Prince called for innovation, cooperation, and vigilance against isolationism, and held bilateral meetings on topics including ocean sustainability.

That same evening, on October 3, 20-year-old piano prodigy Vsevolod Zavidov performed at the Salle Garnier, captivating the audience with works by Haydn, Schubert, Ravel, and Stravinsky. The rising Russian artist, already an international competition winner, shared his dream of becoming a “citizen of the world.”

On October 5, Monaco joined over 50 nations for European Heritage Days, attracting 10,000–15,000 visitors. This year’s theme, focused on architectural heritage, featured guided tours in the Exotic Garden district, youth workshops, and rare access to construction sites like the Villa Palazzino. The event celebrated Monaco’s blend of historical and modern architecture.

In a private ceremony on October 6 at the Prince’s Palace, the Princess of Hanover received the Grand Cross of the National Order of Merit, and Princess Stéphanie was made an Officer of the Legion of Honour. Both royal sisters expressed gratitude and shared the moment with their support teams.

Throughout October, Pink Ribbon Monaco leads its annual breast cancer awareness campaign, now expanded to include all gynaecological cancers. Prominent male ambassadors such as Valtteri Bottas and Maro Engel joined the initiative, which continues under the honorary presidency of Princess Charlène and includes charity events and public outreach.

On October 7, the National Council opened debate on Monaco’s amended 2025 budget, reporting an €86 million surplus. Key topics included housing, mobility, waste management, and urban redevelopment. Minister of State Christophe Mirmand reaffirmed progress, while Council President Thomas Brezzo urged greater ambition. The session concluded with the unveiling of new red and white seats for Stade Louis II.

The 25th Monaco Cybersecurity Conference began on October 8, drawing over 3,000 international experts. Under the theme “Futures,” discussions addressed AI-driven cyber threats, fragile infrastructures, and the growing need for global cooperation. Speakers agreed that cybersecurity must evolve from a purely defensive role to a driver of innovation and trust.

In sports, on October 5, Monaco’s basketball team suffered their first home defeat of the season, losing 99–104 to Chalon despite Mike James’s 31 points. On October 9, the Roca Team rebounded with an impressive 82–79 victory over EA7 Milan in the EuroLeague, maintaining momentum with a gritty away performance.

The Principality once again confirmed its position as the yachting capital of the world, as the Monaco Yacht Show returned from September 24th to 27th. With more than 400 exhibitors and 120 of the globe’s most spectacular vessels on display — from elegant 25-metre cruisers to jaw-dropping 100-metre mega-yachts — the event reaffirmed its status as the premier luxury yacht show worldwide.

On September 25th, Monaco Explorations launched its latest scientific mission from Port of Fontvieille. Under the patronage of Prince Albert II, researchers embarked for Greece to study invisible marine microbiomes — tiny but essential organisms that underpin ocean ecosystems.

A day later, eyes turned skyward at the Prince’s Palace, where Monaco’s new hot air balloon made its second public appearance. Proudly emblazoned with the club’s principal partner, the balloon delighted onlookers in Place du Palais as it lifted gracefully into the air, marking a milestone moment for the Aeronauts of Monaco.

From September 27th to 28th, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II travelled to Rwanda, where he championed initiatives on sustainability, education, and sport. His visit included meeting women training as professional beekeepers at Lake Ruhondo and supporting grassroots development programmes. The trip concluded with the Prince attending the UCI Road World Championships in Kigali — the first time the event has been staged on African soil.

Healthcare also took a step forward as Monaco officially launched its new night doctor service, Médecins de Garde Monaco, on October 1st. Residents can now dial 116 117 for non-urgent consultations between 7pm and 7am, every day of the year. The service was unveiled with the donation of an electric vehicle to assist doctors on duty.

The same day, the Monaco courts marked the opening of the new judicial year. The ceremony at the courthouse reflected on a demanding 12 months, praised the justice system’s resilience, and set priorities for the year ahead — including stronger international cooperation and careful integration of technologies such as artificial intelligence.

Prince Albert II also reconnected with family history on October 1st with a visit to Aix-en-Provence. The commemoration at the Episcopal Palace honoured Cardinal Jérôme Grimaldi, with further recognition of the dynasty’s historical ties to the region.

In sport, it was a mixed week for Monaco. The Roca Team slipped to an 84–89 defeat against Zalgiris Kaunas in their EuroLeague opener, despite a standout performance from Mike James with 24 points. Meanwhile at the Stade Louis-II, AS Monaco pulled off a thrilling 2–2 draw against Manchester City in the Champions League. Erling Haaland netted twice for City, but Jordan Teze and a last-gasp Eric Dier penalty salvaged a vital point for the Red and Whites.

And finally, in this week’s exclusive interview, we sit down with Patrick Wiaux, Founder of Platinum Age Management, to discuss the challenges and opportunities of managing elite athletes, the evolution of sports careers in today’s fast-changing environment, and how Monaco plays a role as a global hub for talent management.
