In this episode we hear interviews conducted with President Chan Santokhi of Suriname and Prime Minister Terrance Drew of Saint Kitts and Nevis. These interviews, conducted by Professor Jenik Radon and 2024 SIPA graduate Jonas Piduhn, were held during this year’s United Nations High-Level Week. The discussion covers issues ranging from climate change to lessons for the next generation of global leaders.

On July 30th, 2024, WKCR aired an exclusive interview with Mark Rudd. Rudd discusses his experience in the 1968 Columbia protests and his thoughts on the current pro-Palestine student movement on Columbia’s campus.
Mark Rudd was a leader of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), one of the leading student groups during the 1968 Columbia Protests which saw students occupy 5 Columbia buildings on anti-racist and anti-war principles. After the Columbia occupation, Rudd would try to push SDS in a more radical direction, creating The Weathermen faction within SDS. Eventually this group would split off from SDS and move underground where they conducted covert operations against the United States government on anti-imperialist principles, notably calling to “Bring the War Home” in reference to the Vietnam War.

A third pro-Palestine encampment was launched at Columbia in response to Israel’s bombing of Rafah and Columbia’s alumni weekend. The encampment was established on the West Lawn under and around a tent rented for Columbia’s alumni weekend, an event which had its programming disrupted by the demonstration.
