  • What’s the Worst that Could Happen, with Leslie Feinzaig
In this episode of Money Tales, our guest is Leslie Feinzaig. Leslie grew up in Costa Rica. She describes her family as immigrants to that country who endured hard lives. She came to the US as a Visa-dependent business school student and soon realized that staying here for her career while still tethered to a Visa required her to take jobs with large companies who could sponsor her. This meant continually working for her resume. But Leslie is an entrepreneur at heart, and this was frustrating. Ultimately, she got a Green Card and everything for Leslie shifted. That’s when she developed her “What’s the Worst that Could Happen” approach that led her to start her own venture capital firm where she’s letting her resume work for her.
Leslie is the Founder and General Partner of Graham & Walker, an early-stage VC fund investing in women-founded tech companies that solve deeply human problems, and the Female Founders Alliance, the most prominent community of VC-backable women founders in the US.
Leslie is a technologist, operator and startup founder described as an "industry trailblazer" by USA Today. Born and raised in Costa Rica, she was named one of Forbes Magazine's Most Powerful Women from Central America, Worth Magazine’s Worthy 100, Puget Sound Business Journal 40 Under 40, and Seattle Magazine's Most Influential People. She has a Bachelor's degree from the London School of Economics and an MBA from Harvard Business School. She is an acclaimed contributing writer for Fortune, Fast Company and Techcrunch.

  • Keep Your Ego Out and Keep Talking, with Ken Pecus
In this episode of Money Tales, our guest is Ken Pecus. Ken is one of those resilient people who hit financial bottom and catapulted back up again. Long story short, he got caught up in legal battle over a franchise agreement. He knew he was in the right and kept the fight going for four long years. In the end, he lost half the lawsuit, and faced financial tragedy when the judge awarded the other side attorney fees just as Ken’s own business was being hurt by the Financial Crisis. This meant Ken was on the hook for paying hundreds of thousands of dollars in a short time period, which nearly wiped him out. Ken’s biggest lessons from that time are to watch your ego, don’t always be focused on proving you are right, and keep communication lines open.
Ken is the founder and Team Leader of The Pecus Group. Having obtained his license in 1989, Ken has more than 34 years of experience representing sellers and buyers throughout San Diego County. He has worked for a variety of companies including small independent firms and large national organizations. In the early 2000s, Ken founded Ascent Real Estate which grew to become the largest non-affiliated real estate company with 10 offices in San Diego County, prior to its merger with a national firm. 14 years after founding Ascent, Ken set out to rebuild a new brand, and has since joined forces with national real estate market leader eXp Realty in order to provide a seamless cutting edge transactional experience for his clients and team agents.
Ken is a native San Diegan having grown up on the island paradise of Coronado, California. After graduating Coronado High School, he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University. Despite always planning to have a real estate career, his first job was working as a software engineer manager at NAS North Island. His engineering background, as well as his time working in a high intensity government aircraft program, provided Ken with invaluable business experience in performance expectations, planning, budgeting and delivering.
Since becoming licensed, Ken has completed hundreds of transactions and has extensive negotiation experience in luxury high value cash and financed sales, foreclosure and short sales, and portfolio building with multi-unit residential. Throughout his career, he has continued to provide extensive training to other agents in all facets of the real estate transaction. His business philosophy has revolved around doing business by referral, and The Pecus Group maintains a comprehensive referral network of other agents, both locally and nationally.
On the personal side, Ken is an avid outdoor sports lover. His game of choice (since grade school) is definitely tennis and tries to spend as much time as he can every week out on the court! He’s also passionate about traveling the world in order to experience new cultures, food and history, but mostly getting to engage with people from every walk of life.

  • The Balanced Class, with Lisa Gautier

In this episode of Money Tales, our guest is Lisa Gautier. Lisa cares deeply about the hair on your head. That might sound weird but let me tell you why. 25 years ago, she and her husband started an environmental public charity called Matter of Trust. Matter of Trust is famous for running a program where they collect hair clippings from thousands of salons. They then form the hair clippings into mats that soak up oil spills because, as you’ve likely experienced, hair is excellent at collecting oil.

Lisa co-founded the environmental public charity Matter of Trust in 1998. She concentrates on the positive, delivering sensible solutions and nurturing teams dedicated to ecology. Lisa also implements transformational programs that promote renewable resources, recycling, reuse, and repair including Matter of Trust’s Eco-Industrial Hub and its Eco-Home. The Hub is a working model factory with exhibits about clean air, water, and energy. The immersive Eco-Home showcases how urban renters can have impactful, earth-friendly apartments and grow edible gardens. Through lectures and interviews, Lisa provides answers for the often asked “What can I do?”

Prior to Matter of Trust, Lisa was Assistant Director in Paris at Valeo (International Development & Treasury 1995-1996) and at FedEx Logistics (1994). Previously in San Francisco, she worked at Cecchi & Massoni (Legal and Accounting 1985-1993). Her studies include French Language & Culture (Sorbonne, France 1993-4) then Zoo Management & Breeding of Endangered Species (Jersey Wildlife Preservation Trust, UK 1983-4). Lisa serves on the Boards for MatterofTrust.org, Biomimicry.org and RandallMuseum.org. She resides in California, with her husband and their three daughters.
