I WANT AN OPEN RELATIONSHIP… BUT MY PARTNER DOESN'T!
Consent, Compromise, or Coercion?
What happens when one person wants ethical non-monogamy, but their partner wants to remain monogamous?
Is agreeing to open your relationship an act of love, a healthy compromise, or something you're doing because you're afraid of losing the person you love?
Not everyone enters ethical non-monogamy the same way. Some couples explore it together with excitement and curiosity. Others find themselves navigating pressure, ultimatums, fear, and difficult compromises.
In this episode of Monogamy Isn't Your Only Option, presented by The Office Social, we're examining the different ways people enter non-monogamous relationships and asking one of the most uncomfortable questions in the lifestyle:
Can a relationship truly be ethical if one person only agrees because they don't want to lose their partner?
WHAT WE'RE DISCUSSING:
Consent: Did both partners freely choose this relationship structure?
Compromise: Can two people find common ground when they want different things?
Coercion: When does persuasion become manipulation?
Pressure: Are you saying yes because you want to, or because you're afraid to say no?
Ultimatums: Is "open the relationship or I'm leaving" an honest boundary or emotional leverage?
Compatibility: Can a monogamous person and a non-monogamous person build a healthy relationship together?
Changing Your Mind: What happens when someone agrees to ENM but later realizes it isn't for them?
We also explore the difference between genuinely choosing a relationship structure and simply tolerating one to keep your partner happy.
Because agreeing to something doesn't always mean you're comfortable with it. And loving someone doesn't mean you have to accept a relationship structure that isn't right for you.
Our panel brings different experiences, perspectives, and opinions to the table. We may not agree, but that's the purpose of the conversation.

Can opening your relationship make it stronger, or could it destroy what you've built? In this episode of Monogamy Isn't Your Only Option, The Office Social explores whether ethical non-monogamy can improve intimacy, communication, and sexual satisfaction—or expose deeper relationship problems. We discuss dead bedrooms, jealousy, boundaries, and what happens when only one partner wants to open up. Can opening a relationship save it? Join the conversation.

What happens when you agree to non-monogamy—not because you actually want it, but because you’re afraid of losing the person you love?
In Episode 4 of Monogamy Isn’t Your Only Option, The Office Social gets into the uncomfortable space between compromise and incompatibility.
Can a monogamous person genuinely build a healthy relationship with someone who wants polyamory? Is saying “yes” to opening the relationship enough if your heart is still saying “no”? And how much responsibility does your partner have for reassuring you while you adjust?
We also discuss emotional responsibility in ENM, including when reassurance is healthy, when it becomes emotional dependency, and whether one partner’s insecurity should be allowed to affect another relationship.
The bigger question: If two people genuinely love each other but fundamentally want different relationship structures, is love enough?
Different people. Different experiences. Different opinions.
The conversation is the point.

Monogamy Isn’t Your Only Option
Presented by The Office Social
Jealousy doesn't disappear just because you practice ethical non-monogamy. So what are you supposed to do when it shows up?
In Episode 3 of Monogamy Isn't Your Only Option, The Office Social gets into one of the most talked-about—and often misunderstood—parts of ethical non-monogamy: jealousy.
We explore jealousy vs. envy, insecurity, fear of being replaced, and compersion—the idea of experiencing happiness from seeing your partner happy with someone else.
But we also ask a harder question: How much jealousy is your partner responsible for helping you manage?
If your partner needs reassurance every time you go on a date, is that communication and emotional support—or does there come a point where their jealousy begins controlling your other relationships?
And what happens when someone proudly identifies as polyamorous but struggles every time their partner actually connects with someone else?
We discuss:
Different people. Different experiences. Different answers.
We're not here to tell you that ENM is better than monogamy—or that being jealous means you're doing non-monogamy wrong.
We're here to have the conversation.
So we want to know:
If your partner's jealousy repeatedly affects your ability to see another partner, at what point does their jealousy become their responsibility instead of yours?
Monogamy Isn't Your Only Option

Conversations. Perspectives. Options.
What happens when your partner has permission to sleep with other people—and discovers that the sex with someone else is better?
In Episode 2 of Monogamy Isn’t Your Only Option, the panel from The Office Social gets into one of the uncomfortable realities that can come with ethical non-monogamy: comparison.
ENM can create opportunities for people to experience different partners, different types of intimacy, and different sexual connections. But what happens when those experiences reveal something about your own relationship?
We explore sexual compatibility, attraction, New Relationship Energy (NRE), comparison, insecurity, and dead bedrooms—and the panel doesn't necessarily agree on how much partners should tell each other.
In this episode:
Then we get into the harder question:
Your relationship has been experiencing a dead bedroom for a year. You open the relationship, and suddenly your partner is having sex with someone else several times a week.
They weren't uninterested in sex.
They were uninterested in sex with you.
What happens next?
This isn't about declaring monogamy or non-monogamy superior. Monogamy Isn't Your Only Option explores the choices, complications, benefits, consequences, and realities of different relationship structures through education and perspectives that won't always agree.
Would you want your partner to tell you if someone else was better in bed—or is that information better left unsaid?
Tell us in the comments.

We want your opinion:
Can you cheat when you're already allowed to date or have sex with other people?
In Episode 1 of Monogamy Isn’t Your Only Option, the panel from The Office Social tackles one of the biggest misconceptions about ethical non-monogamy: that an open relationship means there are no rules and therefore no cheating.
That's only the beginning of the conversation.
We break down the basics of ethical non-monogamy (ENM) and discuss how cheating, honesty, privacy, secrecy, boundaries, and relationship agreements can look very different when more than two people are involved.
We also get into some of the terminology people hear when entering the ENM community—including open relationships, polyamory, swinging, metamours, primary and secondary partners, unicorns, and unicorn hunting.
Then the opinions start to differ.
In this episode:
We don't expect everyone at the table—or everyone watching—to agree. That's the point.
This podcast isn't about convincing you to leave monogamy. It's about education, different perspectives, and having honest conversations about the relationship options that exist beyond it.
Now we want your opinion:
Can you cheat in an open relationship? And what would YOU consider cheating?
Leave your answer in the comments.
