Update 4:58 p.m. The Highway 37 Fire that was threatening the former WR Grace asbestos mine north of Libby is now 100 percent contained. Update 6:25 p.m. A new wildfire was reported at about 3 p.m. about 7 miles west of the town of Plains, just off of Highway 200.

The people evacuated from one house due to the Garden Creek Fire north of Hot Springs yesterday were allowed to return today. The Garden Creek Fire is now listed at over 1,840 acres. According to Confederated Salish and Kootenai tribal fire prevention specialist CT Camel, that’s a 1,300-acre growth spurt since yesterday.

A wildfire burning east of Medicine Lake in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest was discovered yesterday afternoon around 4 p.m. Forest officials estimate the Medicine Lake 2 Fire , located in the Pintler Ranger District, to be about 45 acres.
