Though he only intended to stay a few years, he ended up dedicating his life to the care of people with disabilities. His quest to learn more about his patients and to treat their ailments took him into the burgeoning field of genetics and led to world-renowned discoveries. He also joined other Montanans to advocate for the rights of those with disabilities.
