  • Street crimes unit could return as sheriff’s staffing edges up

    The High Impact Target Team, or HITT, began in 2019, dedicating peace officers to active surveillance and proactive law enforcement to reduce drug, property and other types of crimes, while taking the load off patrol deputies. But MCSO was having trouble keeping pace with the pay and benefits other agencies offered, including right here in Montrose. The sheriff hit pause on HITT last spring.
