Trump's policies for Africa specifically and, by extension, SA, offer better conditions for us to grow as a region and a continent with less interference and also allow us to have choice in who and how we deal with other countries.
So in this opinion video, we’re going to look at some parts of the South Africa and Africa relationship with the US and see what a Harris presidency could mean for Africa and what a Trump presidency would mean.
Africa has not featured much in foreign policy discussions leading up to the U.S. presidential elections, but the outcome will have a significant impact on African countries and beyond.
With regard to the fundamental ideology at the heart of Trump's policies, he believes in isolationism in every respect, America First!. He looks more inward. Which means less time interfering in Africa’s affairs.
Unlike his four predecessors, Trump did not visit the continent once during his one term in office. When I say this guy will leave us alone, this is what I mean.
The US will withdraw from international affairs should Trump regain the presidency.
Look, if Trump wins this election, we will possibly see a kind of reversion back to that earlier period of US foreign policy under Trump. Which will create the conditions for Africa to chart its own path forward.
This would be beneficial for many African countries whose internal affairs are disproportionately affected by the current democratic party’s policy of interference on the continent.
But what is your take ?
