If you could sit down with the woman you were 10 or 20 years ago, what would you say to her?
Would you question her choices? Warn her about what's coming? Tell her all the things you wish she'd understood sooner?
It's interesting how easily we can look back at our younger selves and wonder why we didn't know better. But there's something we often forget when we revisit those earlier chapters of our lives.
In this episode of More Like Herself, we're exploring the surprising ways hindsight can distort how we see ourselves—and why the woman you used to be might deserve a very different story than the one you've been telling about her.
You don't have to figure this season out alone.

What if all the advice we're taking in is making it harder to hear ourselves?
In midlife, there's no shortage of voices telling us how to improve our health, relationships, routines, and lives. And while so much of that wisdom can be valuable, sometimes we end up feeling more overwhelmed, less confident, and further away from what we actually want.
In this episode of More Like Herself, we're exploring the surprising ways too much good information can leave us feeling lost, why stepping away from trusted guidance can feel uncomfortable, and what might happen when we make a little more room for our own wisdom.
Because maybe the next thing we need isn't something new to learn. Maybe it's space to listen to what our own lives have already taught us.

Have you ever felt lonely…and at the very same time had absolutely no desire to socialize?
I've noticed this contradiction creeping into my own life more and more in my 40s. I can long for connection while also wanting more quiet, more space, and less socializing than I used to.
So what exactly are we looking for when we say we're lonely?
In this episode of More Like Herself, I'm wondering about the changing shape of connection in midlife—why we can feel lonely even when we're surrounded by people, why being social doesn't always leave us feeling connected, and why sometimes the very connection we long for can feel difficult to reach for.
Maybe loneliness is a little more complicated than simply needing more people in our lives.
And maybe it's worth getting curious about what we're really experiencing when it shows up.

There are parts of ourselves we can lose touch with so gradually that we don’t even realize we miss them.
Life changes. We move. Our kids grow. Responsibilities shift. Routines take over. And things that once felt like such a natural part of who we are can quietly disappear from our lives.
Until one day, we encounter one of them again.
And something inside us wakes up.
In this episode, we’re talking about those unexpected moments when a place, a song, an activity, a person, or an experience gives something back to us—and reminds us of a part of ourselves we may have forgotten was still there.
Because “I don’t do that anymore” isn’t always the same as “that’s not me anymore.”
Some things we really do outgrow.
But some things are still ours.
And maybe becoming more like ourselves in midlife isn’t only about discovering who we’re becoming.
Sometimes it’s noticing what makes something inside us quietly say:
Oh. There I am.

Somewhere along the way, many of us got really good at pushing ourselves.
We learned how to get things done, hold things together, figure things out, and keep moving. But in midlife, I’ve been wondering if that same strategy can start making the things we care about feel heavier than they need to.
A desire to feel stronger becomes pressure about our body. Wanting to feel closer to someone becomes a relationship we need to fix. Wondering what’s next becomes something we think we should have figured out by now.
Sometimes we take something that could be explored and turn it into something that has to be solved.
In this episode, we’re talking about the extra weight we add to the things that matter—urgency, expectations, comparison, self-criticism, and the belief that pressure is what keeps us moving.
Because taking the pressure off doesn’t mean we stop caring.
It doesn’t mean we stop growing, trying, changing, or wanting more.
Maybe it means learning to ask a different question:
How do I want to live while I’m getting there?
Because getting there is our life, too.
And maybe we can keep moving toward what matters without pushing ourselves the whole way.
Maybe we can let it be lighter.

There’s a phrase so many of us say in midlife: “I just want to feel like myself again.”
But lately I’ve been wondering—what if we’re so busy looking back at who we used to be that we’re missing who we’re becoming?
We talk a lot about what getting older changes or takes from us. But there are things these years are giving us, too—things we couldn’t have rushed our way into. A richer perspective. More room for complexity. A clearer sense of what matters and what doesn’t. The ability to let other people be who they are. And the kind of knowing that only comes from actually living through things.
In this episode, we’re looking at another side of aging: not just what we may be losing, but what we’ve been quietly gathering along the way.
Because maybe the goal isn’t to get the old you back.
Maybe you’re becoming someone you couldn’t have been yet.
And what if some of the best parts of you are still ahead?

We spend so much of our lives trying to figure things out. We plan, analyze, anticipate, problem-solve, and search for the right answer—especially when something feels uncertain.
And our minds are incredibly useful. But what happens when we ask them to give us something they simply can’t guarantee: certainty about our future, our children, our relationships, our finances, our faith—or whether everything is going to be okay?
In this episode, I’m sharing something I’ve been practicing lately when I notice myself caught in that mental circling: “Kelly, drop into your heart.”
We’ll explore the difference between useful thinking and the kind of thinking that keeps us searching for certainty we may never find, why midlife can bring us face-to-face with so many things we simply cannot know, and how another kind of confidence can become available when we stop requiring all the evidence first.
Because maybe peace doesn’t always come from finally finding the answer.
Maybe sometimes nothing gets solved—but something in us gets settled.
And maybe becoming more like ourselves means learning when to use these brilliant minds we’ve been given—and when to become quiet enough to hear what we already know underneath all the noise.

If you’re a woman in your 40s or 50s, there’s no shortage of advice about how you should be taking care of yourself. Eat more protein. Try fasting. Lift heavier. Don’t eat too late. Get more fiber. Protect your sleep. Lower your stress.
Some of that information can be incredibly helpful. But at what point does caring for our health become so loud that we can’t hear ourselves anymore?
In this episode, I’m wondering what might happen if we stopped trying quite so hard to get health “right.” We’ll talk about the difference between rules and principles, why food doesn’t need a moral score, what it actually means to listen to your body without letting every craving or feeling run the show, and why something that’s considered “healthy” may not always be the right choice for you.
We’ll also widen the conversation beyond what’s on our plates—to sleep, stress, movement, relationships, connection, purpose, pleasure, and all the other things that nourish a human life.
Because maybe midlife isn’t asking us to care less about our health.
Maybe it’s inviting us to care differently—with more awareness, flexibility, nourishment, trust, and room to be human.

Because I Like It: Making Room for Things That Don't Need a Purpose
When did simply enjoying something stop feeling like a good enough reason to do it?
So much of our time can become about accomplishing, improving, measuring, or getting something done—and when we're tired from all that doing, it's easy to default to whatever requires the least from us. But there's a whole territory in between: play, interest, pleasure, curiosity, and experiences that simply make us feel a little more alive.
In this episode, I talk about my complicated relationship with the word hobbies, the difference between rest and actually feeling restored, why being bad at something might be worth doing anyway, how we've gotten so good at filling every empty space, and an evening walk that reminded me that something doesn't have to teach me, improve me, or accomplish anything to be worth my time.
Maybe we don't need another hobby or another way to work on ourselves. Maybe we just need to notice what gives something back to us—and occasionally let “because I like it” be reason enough.

Whose Life Are You Paying Attention To?
It’s easy to become an expert on someone else’s patterns. What they’re thinking. How they might react. Why they keep doing what they do. And sometimes, without realizing it, we can spend so much of our precious attention there that there’s very little left for our own lives.
In this episode, I’m talking honestly about something I’m still learning myself: the difference between being aware of the people we love and mentally living inside their experiences. We’ll look at why we do this, what it can cost us, and what changes when we trade blame, judgment, and trying to predict other people for curiosity about ourselves.
Because maybe becoming more like ourselves isn’t another huge midlife project. Maybe it begins by noticing the woman whose life we’re actually living—what she feels, what she needs, what matters to her, and how she wants to show up.
What might begin growing if we brought some of that attention home?
