More Movies Please!

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are having to deal with someone who’s a little too much of a fan. We watched the 1990 film from Rob Reiner, Misery.

I’ll be the first to say that we love our fans. You intrepid, stalwart listeners, you, who download a new episode of More Movies Please! every single dang week, we appreciate your support.

But after watching this film, we’re going to be a lot more careful on the roads. Not that I think any of you would kidnap, imprison, or hobble either of us, but… Well, you know… You never can be too sure about these things.

We still love you all though! And we hope that you enjoy another week of Kathy Bates lovin’ with her Oscar-winning performance. It’s a doozy!

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are navigating this weird, scary new world of growing up. We watched the 2023 film from Kelly Fremon Craig, Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.

Ah, the joys of puberty. The changing voice, the new hair sprouting up everywhere, and who knows what the heck is going on down in the bathing suit area. It’s a time we all share and remember fondly.

Wait, did I say “joy”? Did I refer to it “fondly”? I must be off my rocker today, because puberty is none of those things for anybody. Nowhere is that truth better depicted in the story of Margaret and her evolving life.

For week two of our Kathy Bates appreciation month, we’ve got a heart-warming classic story. Enjoy the film and join us in loving a great performance by one of cinema’s all-time greats.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are frying up something tasty for y’all. We watched the 1991 film from Jon Avnet, Fried Green Tomatoes.

To kick off our entire month full of Kathy Bates love, we present to you one of the craziest, loveliest, movingest films we’ve ever had the pleasure of talking about on this podcast.

What do you get when you throw in a dash of death and dismemberment, a heap of the freaking Klan, and a whole soupçon of literal cannibalism? You get this incredible film, of course!

Who would have ever guessed those points would also describe a movie about intergenerational storytelling and illicit lesbian feelings? We sure as heck didn’t. What better way to kick off this wonderful month of love?

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are just trying to celebrate the new millennium in peace! We watched the 2024 film from Kyle Mooney, Y2K.

Remember those halcyon days when our pants were baggy and saggy, our Tamagotchis controlled our lives, and the world was on the brink of destruction because of a computer coding oversight?

Pepperidge Farm remembers. The year 2000 was a wild one. If you weren’t alive back then, like most of the cast of this film, then take our word for it—all of this actually happened. If you were alive, then shhhh… keep it a secret!

To kick off this new year—25 freaking years after the subject of this film—we’re making Y2K our B-movie of the month. Will it be brilliant, a flunder, or the dreaded blunder?

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are on an unstoppable quest to get our gold back from the worst scum imaginable. We watched the 2022 film from Jalmari Helander, Sisu.

What do you get when you cross a crapload of found gold, a bunch of Nazi bastards, and what could rightly be called the Finnish Superman? You get one of the bloodiest, revengiest films ever made.

There’s a proverb that revenge is a dish best served cold. When you’re in the far northern part of Finland, where temperatures can plummet down to -60º F (around -50º C), then the only temperature revenge can be served is freaking freezing.

Let this film be a lesson to us all. If you ever happen to meet a grizzled looking Finlander who’s on a determined trek, then stay the hell away from them. Seriously. I’m trying to save your life here.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are wishing we were Nicolas Cage and best friends with Pedro Pascal. We watched the 2022 film from Tom Gormican, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.

I’m putting it out there right now: Nic Cage is one of our finest actors. Not only is he a freaking Oscar winner, but he also does weird meta movies like this one. Doesn’t he seem like the craziest hang imaginable?

There may have been some tough years in his past. Who among us doesn’t occasionally have some money troubles and have to accept work we’d rather not do? But should we get on his case for stuff like Bangkok Dangerous and Drive Angry?

For every one of those films, there’s a Moonstruck, a Leaving Las Vegas, a The Rock. He’s the best, and he shows us why in this delightful film.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean have found themselves trapped in a future that’s not quite like our present. We watched the 2006 film from Mike Judge, Idiocracy.

Question for you: if you had to choose between living in an Idiocracy future or a WALL•E future, which would you go with?

I know this episode isn’t about that Pixar movie, but bear with me. Sure, we’d likely be morbidly obese, watching non-stop television, and have an insatiable appetite for cupcake milkshakes. But isn’t that kind of the dream? Sure is a heck of a lot better than being one of the many dumbest people ever.

Plus, WALL•E has several cute robots. What does Idiocracy have? TV in front of the toilet? Come to think of it, with all of our phones, we’re already kind of living the Idiocracy life. Really makes you think…

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are dressing up like Santa to rob a whole freaking casino on Christmas Day. We watched the 2000 film from John Frankenheimer, Reindeer Games.

When it comes time for us to wrap up the year, and stick a bow on top, we like to ask ourselves a question: did either of us really torture the other enough with our B-movie choices?

I mean, how else can we say goodbye to one year and welcome the next? This time, we’ve got a doozy for everybody. Ben Affleck, Gary Sinise, Charlize Theron. You know them. You love them. You might feel differently about them after this mess.

Listen on to find out what we grade this thing that Charlize considers her worst movie. Did we give it a brilliant, a flunder, or the dreaded blunder? Happy holidays, you filthy animals!

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are learning to live again while taking down some dirty, rotten criminals. We watched the 1987 film by Richard Donner, Lethal Weapon.

If 50-something is, as Murtaugh claims, “too old for this shit,” then what do we have to look forward to? And what does it say about us when we’re already feeling too old for a lot of shit?

I’ll say one thing: at least none of us have just been partnered up with a loose cannon with a death wish. I’m sure that’s not what Murtaugh wished for when he blew out his birthday candles.

But you know what none of us will ever too old for? Watching a fantastic ‘80s classic. And it’s a Christmas movie to boot? Santa Claus is bringing the goods for us all this year!
