Hand Therapy Consultant Michelle Razo shares her journey into the specialization, her experience in being a hand therapist in the US and then in the UK.
In the Part 2 of my conversation with Michelle Razo, we talked about her Framework of Proximity Blindness. In the field of hand therapy, professionals often find themselves facing a common challenge known as proximity blindness. This phenomenon occurs when clinicians focus too narrowly on the immediate issue at hand, neglecting the broader context of a patient's overall health and well-being.
In this podcast episode, we’ll explore the concept of proximity blindness and provide actionable insights to help therapists avoid this pitfall.

Many people have the misconception that Hand Therapy means Hand Massage. Sorry to burst your bubble guys, but Hand Therapists, Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists do not function the same as a Massage Therapists. Our qualifications, scopes of practice and skill sets are very different. Although we use massage as a part of our tool in the treatment whenever it is required, we are not confined to massage per se. Massage falls within the encompassing term of Manual Therapy. Yet again, Manual Therapy is not just massage.
In this fifth offering of More Than Just A Hand, Clinical Development Coordinator of the Hand to Shoulder Center of Wisconsin, in Appleton, Wisconsin, USA , Ann Porretto-Loerkhe explains what Manual Therapy is and what to expect when you see a Hand Therapist.
