More Than Macros Ep 23: The Postpartum Method with Kristy Ahale

Listen Later

Pregnancy is quite obviously a time of considerable physical change, but what's often not so commonly spoken about is the actual physiological changes occurring and their impacts on the mother's training or exercise regime and understanding the possible implications that can occur during this time.

What's brought to the surface even less is the resulting physical effects of being postpartum, and how to encourage healing and the regaining of movement and strength in a manner that is healthy and sustainable.

This week, Kristy Ahale joins to podcast to discuss all things training during pregnancy and returning to sport once baby is born. Having noticed a complete lack of information in this specific area of women's health, The Postpartum Method was born - a prescriptive program designed to help new mothers heal, reconnect and ultimately return safely to the activities or sports they enjoyed previous to pregnancy.

We're also joined by our very own mumma to be, Katrina Borg, who shares some of her experiences with physical limitations and ailments during this time.

Kristy takes us through:
- The common misconceptions that still exist with training and exercising during pregnancy
- The physiological and anatomical changes that are occurring and why some specific movements should be avoided
- Movements and exercises that should be included into activity during pregnancy and why
- Some of the common challenges that occur physiologically postpartum such as separation and leaking, plus what can be done to address these issues
- Why timelines should only be used in conjunction with individual appraisal and not as a deadline.

For all you new mothers or mothers to be, who have ambitions of beginning to work toward getting back into training, and for any of you who train women during this time - this is the episode you've been waiting for!
