Welcome to a new episode of the More Than Medical Students. We are excited to be launching our new Mini-series on Applying to Specialty Training!
Are you thinking about applying to specialty training soon or just interested to hear more about how applying to training works? This series is just for you! We will be hearing from successful applicants, trainees and senior doctors to discuss the application steps and highlight any tips for you. A great way to learn and make the most of your upcoming application!
This is our first episode of the series and as an introduction we discuss the application timeline and introduce the next episodes in our series. We discuss the realities of this increasingly competitive selection for training programmes and how to navigate this. Dr Marianne who has successfully applied to Obs & Gynae training this year shares her experience and some general advice for all applicants.
Remember this podcast series will be of interest to listeners of different levels including Doctors who have already started to prepare for applications and want to maximise their chances but also Doctors who just want to start exploring the options and are still very new to the process.
If you don't know what you want to specialise in, don't worry! Listen to our tips on exploring your interests today and browse a selection of episodes to learn more.

“I’m an air hostess and I’m also training to become a Doctor”, this is the super exciting story of Jen, air hostess and medical student.
At More Than Medical Students we love hearing from non-traditional medical students and different journeys into medicine. In this episode, we chat with Jen about her journey working as a cabin crew member on one of UK’s top airlines, deciding to apply to medical school and overcoming several hurdles that arise as a non-traditional student, balancing medical school with still flying part time, and finally completing medical school and graduating as a Doctor! In this episode we also talk about imposter syndrome and how to cope with repeating a year at med school. Another episode not to be missed!
