There are people in this world who have a special calling to work with individuals dealing with extreme trauma. The trauma can vary, and the stages in life of each person varies as well. An avenue where people can help is through foster and adoption. This process can look different from state to state, and especially from one country to another. My guest, Amber Black, on today’s episode experienced working at a home for young children through the age of 18 in a country outside of the United States. She observed a lot of trauma and learned how to coach staff through trauma informed care at a school she and her husband started. In an unconventional way, she felt a calling to take in one of the teenagers as her own. In this episode, you’ll learn how Amber and her husband landed overseas and how becoming a mother at 39 to a teenager was never on her radar, until it was.
