Crowns... what do they mean? Royalty, influence, power. The crown of thorns was a mockery of those things. Thorns have always been our sin holding us back from bearing fruit, getting in the way of compassion, mercy and love. Our sin demands payment, demands blood. Who but Jesus would have enough?

He is risen! He is risen, indeed. This thing we call Christianity is, contrary to popular belief, not based on the teachings of Jesus. Our faith doesn't rest on what He said or the miracles He performed. Rather, our faith, at its very core, is sole based on an event.

If we were able to go back in time and look at those moments before Jesus went to the cross, it's a whole different scene than what we find on Good Friday. A parade... a procession... thousands of people have come to Jerusalem praising Jesus, calling Him Hosanna. Why now?

When things seem to be going the worst, God is doing the most. We all tend to put ourselves in God's seat. We think we can decide what's right and what's wrong and be our own moral authority. But God is ultimately in control. He knows best.

Jacob understood that God was at work in his life and in his family. He believed that God is sovereign. He trusted in that. Regardless of whether we agree with the story or not, God is going to do what He's going to do. Are you willing to just be a part of it?

If we cooperate with God, we get to be a part of a story bigger and grander than ourselves. Joseph knew this. God was using the story of Joseph to prepare him to be a savior to a people who did not have a heart for God.
