RFM and Bill Reel are joined this week by Meggan Hayes from “Generally Unquotable” to break down several of the talks from this past FAIRMormon Apologetics conference. Many budding apologists came to hear some of the worst talks on defending Mormonism ever given! Apologetics wasn’t that great in the 1980s. But in the past forty-years, it has done nothing but go downhill! Come join us as we show the logical fallacies in how FAIRMormon defends the LDS Church. Mormon Apologetics has never been so much fun!

Are Mormons Raising Their Kids Wrong? | Audra Phelps on Mormon & Post-Mormon Parenting What happens when you leave Mormonism and realize you must rethink not only what you believe, but how you raise your children? In this episode of Mormon Discussion, Bill Reel sits down with Audra Phelps for an honest conversation about Mormon parenting, religious conditioning, and raising emotionally healthy children beyond the framework of the LDS Church. Together, we explore how obedience, shame, fear, and rigid expectations can shape parent-child relationships—and how parents can replace those patterns with trust, autonomy, emotional connection, and critical thinking. We also discuss navigating mixed-faith families, teaching children about sex and modesty without shame, managing our own emotional triggers, and learning to give children the freedom to make mistakes. At the heart of this conversation is a powerful question: Are we raising children to obey and conform, or helping them become healthy, independent adults who trust themselves? Whether you’re Mormon, ex-Mormon, or simply questioning how you were raised, this conversation offers practical insights into breaking generational patterns and becoming a more intentional parent.

Bill Reel and RFM take a look at the recent FAIRMormon apologetic conference that took place last August. The amazing thing is that Mormon apologetics isn’t getting better with age. If anything, Mormon apologetics is getting worse. And that’s saying something! It’s like they’re not just trying to fool nonbelievers, anymore. They’re trying to fool each other! But rest assured, no matter the tricks they try, they won’t get much past our intrepid pair, RFM and Bill Reel!

Mormon scholar Dan McClellan appeared on one of the world’s biggest podcasts—and the Mormon backlash has been fascinating! On tonight’s Mormon Newscast, we examine Dan McClellan’s appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, where the Latter-day Saint biblical scholar spent more than two hours discussing the Bible, ancient religion, biblical contradictions, and how religious beliefs developed over time. But here’s the twist: despite McClellan being an active Mormon, Mormonism itself was barely discussed. Now McClellan is facing criticism from multiple directions. Some believing Latter-day Saints are upset that he didn’t use the opportunity to share his testimony or promote the restored gospel. Others are questioning how he reconciles his biblical scholarship with traditional LDS teachings. And some of his more progressive supporters are disappointed that he appeared on Rogan’s controversial platform in the first place. Did McClellan miss a once-in-a-lifetime missionary opportunity, or did he demonstrate that serious biblical scholarship can stand on its own without religious proselytizing? We’ll examine what happened, what McClellan actually said, and why the reaction has become a story of its own. Also on Tonight’s Mormon Newscast Stake President Embezzles $30 Million: A former Washington state LDS stake president is sentenced to prison after stealing millions from the healthcare organization he ran. How did someone engaged in financial misconduct end up in a position of spiritual leadership? $3 Million Donation to a New Juneteenth Museum: A major contribution to the National Juneteenth Museum in Fort Worth, Texas, raises interesting questions about the LDS Church’s evolving relationship with race, history, and its public image. A Non-Christian Statue in the LDS Conference Center? A surprising new artistic display has people talking about religious symbolism and what belongs inside one of Mormonism’s most recognizable buildings. Tim Ballard Blames Everyone But Himself: The former Operation Underground Railroad founder is accusing LDS leaders of conspiring against him, covering up abuse, and sabotaging his political ambitions. We examine his latest allegations and the ongoing legal controversies surrounding him. Spying for the Lord… or at Least to Peep: Former Maryland sheriff’s detective Ryan Christopher Hall faces federal charges involving allegations that he secretly recorded sexually explicit material of two children related to him using hidden bathroom cameras. We discuss the allegations and the serious charges against him. Jesus or the LDS Church—What’s the Difference? A Salt Lake Tribune commentary raises a thought-provoking possibility: When people say they’re losing faith, is it necessarily Jesus they’re losing faith in, or the religious institution claiming to represent him? Does This Photograph Really Show Joseph Smith? A new documentary examines the evidence surrounding the controversial daguerreotype that some believe could be an authentic photograph of Mormonism’s founder. The Devil’s Prayer: A Satanic Temple representative opens an Iowa city council meeting with a Satanic invocation, prompting an angry response from a Christian pastor. What happens when religious freedom extends to religions we don’t like? Ammon Bundy Breaking the Law Again? The Mormon anti-government activist is arrested near Cedar City, Utah, after refusing to comply with vehicle registration laws, then reportedly walks eight miles along Interstate 15 in protest. The LDS Church Puts Its Money Behind Idaho’s Abortion Fight: Church leaders have contributed $1 million to a campaign opposing an Idaho ballot measure that would protect abortion rights and overturn existing restrictions. From biblical scholarship and Mormon identity to financial scandals, religious freedom, political activism, and church influence, tonight’s episode explores the stories shaping Mormonism and the world around it. Join us LIVE for Mormon Newscast as we examine the headlines, ask the uncomfortable questions, and discuss what these stories mean for believing Mormons, former Mormons, and everyone paying attention. What happened to the apostles who helped build early Mormonism—and then walked away? When the original Quorum of the Twelve was organized in 1835, these men were not fringe figures. They preached the gospel, served missions, worked directly with Joseph Smith, participated in the movement’s spiritual experiences, and occupied some of its highest positions of authority. Yet six of those original apostles would eventually leave, be excommunicated, challenge Joseph Smith, or follow a very different version of the Restoration. In this episode of Mormonism LIVE, we tell the stories of Thomas B. Marsh, William E. McLellin, John F. Boynton, Luke Johnson, Lyman Johnson, and Joseph Smith’s own brother William Smith. Their stories take us into the Kirtland banking collapse, charges brought against Joseph Smith, the violence of 1838 Missouri, succession disputes, polygamy, prophetic authority, broken trust, and the question some early Mormon leaders eventually faced: Had Joseph Smith himself gone astray? Some came back. Some never did. Some continued believing in the Book of Mormon while rejecting Joseph Smith’s later leadership. And several went on to build successful lives completely outside the LDS Church. The deeper story is that early Mormonism was far less inevitable—and far more complicated—than it can appear when history is told by the people who ultimately won the succession struggle. The six apostles who stayed in the historical spotlight became prophets and heroes. These six largely became cautionary tales, footnotes, or disappeared from the story altogether. It’s time to put them back into the history.
