Just Weird

As I listened to this book I felt like I was listening to a story written by a 15 year old girl who had grown up in a convent and is the president of her schools environmental club. This girl decides to write a paranormal, Catholic romance, which includes a sex scene and a smidgen of environmentalism for good measure. The narrator sounds like she is reading it with a flashlight to her friends late at night. The narrators voice his so high pitched and sweet, and the love interest keeps telling her that she is so sweet that I felt like I needed insulin shots. The sex scene was weird in a Christian Romance. It really detracted from the appeal of the characters in my opinion. The male lead had made a vow after a tragedy not to make love again until he was married...three days in the wilderness with Ms. Bubblegum and he breaks his vow. I have only read Protestant Romance books to this point, so I don't know if sex is normal in Catholic Romances, but it just seemed wrong. I paid for it, so I listened to it. But it felt like purgatory.

Morning Light is a Christian paranormal romance.

I'd call this a contemporary Christian western romance with a paranormal twist. It is about a horse rancher and a psychic, and both are devoutly religious Catholics. There's adventure, romance, and dollops of sin and guilt during a horse trek through the Oregon mountains while they try to rescue a lost child. They confront the wilderness, their own personal prejudices, and consider their actions in light of their religious training. If you haven't read it and aren't offended by religious overtones, I'd suggest it.

I prefer the print version of this book. Julia Gibson's reading of this book made the woman seem whiney, and somewhat unlikeable. I wanted a more upbeat voice with more energy. She did a better job with the male voice.

MISLEADING SUMMARY

I read: heart-pounding + finalist award winning + wilderness survival + romance = fun, and light listening for chores times.

Unfortunately what I found was a shameless religious propaganda. Also, situations and characters so phony, so fake so full of self-rightousness that instead of the expected laughs or smiles or even the promised thrill the only thing is bitter disappointment.

I don't mind religious books, for instance I enjoyed and recommended THE SHACK .
