    Apprenticeships across all industries are to be fully subsidised in a bid to bolster employment prospects.
    The Targeted Training and Apprenticeships Fund will pay the tuition costs of people of any age who sign up for vocational training.
    In some cases apprentices and trainees could save as much as $6500 for each year of learning.

  • Coronavirus: Global guidelines for air travel released
    Global guidelines for air travel have been released by the International Civil Aviation Organisation, aimed at restarting international travel safely.
    The UN agency recommends the wearing of masks by passengers and crew, physical distancing, temperature checks and rapid testing - once it is available.

  • Calls to ensure future Covid-19 vaccine accessible to all
    An international medical group is calling for greater efforts to be made to ensure that any future Covid-19 vaccines are sold at cost and made accessible to all.
    It argues any government that funds vaccine research should attach strings to that funding about access and affordability.

    More than half of a $30 million emergency welfare fund has been spent in just over a month, and many of those in need are foreigners and migrant workers who can't get home.
    With the borders still closed and unemployment skyrocketing, the government is now looking at more support - and at the rate the money is already being soaked up the extra help will be needed in just a matter of weeks.

  • Todd Muller on Black Lives Matter protests, Alert Level 1
    The National Party says mixed messages from the government on Covid 19 alert levels are causing the public to get complacent about social distancing as evidenced in the Black Lives Matter rallies held around the country on Monday.
    In a media release issued after midnight last night BLM Solidarity Auckland Spokesperson Shalane Williams said they "worked with Auckland Police to reinforce the social distancing message every 5-10 minutes. and quote " We handed out masks, had hand sanitiser available and followed contact tracing protocol" .
    We asked BLM Solidarity to speak to us this morning, they declined our invitation.

  • Continued outrage at removal of protesters for Donald Trump walkabout
    There has been continued outrage in Washington DC over yesterday's decision to forcibly remove peaceful protesters from a park in Washington DC so that the President could stage a photo-opp at a historic church near the White House.
    Muriel Bowser, the mayor of Washington D.C., said she was outraged by the way the visit played out.
    Former Vice President, and Democratic presidential hopeful, Joe Biden's accused Trump of fanning "flames of hate" overnight.

  • Black Lives Matter protests continue in New York
    New York has seen more looting in the wake of the death of Minneapolis man George Floyd, despite a curfew designed to maintain order in the city.
    It comes after Donald Trump threatened to deploy the military against protesters.
    Looting took place in the wealthy area of Manhattan.
    The city's curfew has since been moved to 8pm in an attempt to quell the unrest.
