    The central bank has said it will make an announcement at eight o'clock this morning with a news conference later in the morning.
    RNZ business editor Gyles Beckford says a cut in the cash rate by as much as half a percent is likely.

  • Covid-19: How Kiwis feel about new restrictions
    From today every traveller who lands in New Zealand is being met by a health official at the airport with instructions on how to manage two weeks in isolation.
    Customs has also closed its e-gates and every passenger must have their passport checked by a customs officers.
    The tougher travel restrictions came into force at 1am this morning to curb the spread of coronavirus.

  • Covid-19: Three cases in French Polynesia, another three in Guam
    Pacific countries have imposed strict border measures to try to keep the coronavirus from gaining a foothold in the islands.
    Six cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in the Pacific so far - the first three in French Polynesia and, last night, three more were confirmed in Guam.
    If there are more health officials say they would be easily overwhelmed.

    Now anyone flying into New Zealand, except from the Pacific Islands, must go into isolation for 14 days to curb the spread of coronavirus.
    Cruise ships are also banned from the country's waters until the end of June.

  • Covid-19: Mayoral elections held in France amid lockdown
    Local mayoral elections are being held across France despite new restrictions announced during the weekend.
    All non-essential public spaces including cafes, restaurants, cinemas and gyms have been closed and the French prime minister Edouard Phillippe has urged people to reduce their travel.
    Around 4,500 cases of the coronavirus has so far been reported in France.
    Paris correspondent Hugh Schofield speaks to Susie Ferguson.
