The ADHD community says it's in crisis with more than 80% struggling to get support. Long waits at District Health Boards, most of which won't see adults at all, is forcing most patients to seek help privately or give up entirely. An estimated one in 20 New Zealanders have the condition and some are now resorting to Tik Tok for medical advice. The Ministry of Health says it's always concerning to hear some are struggling to access the support they need, and it recognises inconsistencies across DHBs in how they treat adults with ADHD and mental health issues. It says its response to the Mental Health and Addiction Inquiry and wider health reforms will create a more unified approach across public and private health providers, and it's also working to put more counsellors in schools to help children and young people. A small number of New Zealanders are still taking overseas holidays, returning via managed isolation

That's despite the demise of the Australian and the Cook Islands travel bubbles and continued advice "not to travel".

In nine weeks from late July to the end of September there were 180 return trips abroad where people ticked "holiday/vacation" on their arrival card.

Black Caps bowler Ajaz Patel has achieved an historic feat in Mumbai, where he took all 10 wickets in the first innings, and another four in the second innings in a test match against India. He's just the third player to achieve the feat in the 144-year history of test cricket. Former New Zealand international spinner Dipak Patel played a significant role in his namesake's development, when he made the switch from being a pace bowler in his late teens. He spoke to Susie Ferguson.

The Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said pulling the brakes off too quickly ono Covid-19 restrictions can backfire. 

She says under the traffic light system, it's important we keep using public health measures, to ensure our systems don't become overwhelmed.

We're into day four of the traffic light system and, for many of us, it's taking a bit of getting used to.

Vaccination passes, under the system, are required for entry in a range of public settings.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern told Morning Report there haven't been widespread issues with fake passes being used.

She's also defended the decision to have Auckland in a red light, amid calls from opposition leader Christopher Luxon to free up restrictions in the supercity. 

"While we're in a transition phase, we want to make sure we step into this easing carefully.

"We've seen overseas, if you pull the brakes just too quickly, it can end in disaster and a quick flip into restrictions. We don't want that," Ardern said.

Cafés and even councils around the country are making their own decisions on how they'll operate within the new guidelines.

The country's first weekend under the new Covid-19 traffic light system has gone smoothly for most, although a few customers have been caught trying to test the boundaries of the vaccination pass system. It's day four of red or orange, depending where you live, with those vaccinated allowed to go to gyms, cafes and restaurants, albeit with some restrictions. Some teething problems with obtaining the vaccine pass are still being ironed out and the police are collecting evidence of any breaches. Amy Williams filed this report.

The Black Caps are staring at defeat in the second test in Mumbai but it hasn't taken any shine off the monumental performance of spinner Ajaz Patel, who took all 10 of India's first innings wickets.

Patel is just the third player to achieve the 10 wicket feat in the 144-year history of test cricket.

Global adulation included praise from two of our greatest players.

Sir Richard Hadlee, who held the previous New Zealand record of nine innings wickets, described Patel's display as "delight to watch" while our most decorated spinner, Daniel Vettori, said the feat surpassed Brendon McCullum's triple-century as our finest individual achievement.

Patel's father Yunus told RNZ's First Up the family couldn't believe what they were witnessing on the first day of the test.

“I’m very proud… he’s got very, very big wish to play against in India. Ajaz was born in Bombay, not far from the stadium,” Yunus Patel said.

Patel bagged another four wickets in the second innings resulting in another record, the most wickets in a test match against India.

Ajaz Patel's wife, Nilofer, told Morning Report the whole family was glued to the television screen.

"Our hearts basically stopped.. when he made that amazing catch, we were all screaming and jumping for joy.

"Mum, dad, grandma, were all jumping. We still couldn't believe it".

Thousands of teenagers in Auckland, Northland and parts of Waikato are skipping their NCEA exams. They are making the most of a new rule that means they will get an unexpected-event grade for any exams they miss, no questions asked. In the first four days of exams average attendance in the three regions was 55% and this week some schools are reporting rates as low as 15% Our education correspondent John Gerritsen has been talking to principals about what's going on.
