A new exhibition in New Plymouth offers a stark interpretation of the impact of colonisation on Maori. Subtitled - 'a cautionary tale about human endeavour in Aotearoa New Zealand' - it pulls no punches in drawing parallels between the land wars, confiscation and environmental and economic problems of the present day. A team of Nepali climbers has set a new world record by becoming the first to reach the summit of K2, the world's second highest mountain, in winter. Dozens of climbers this winter had hoped to achieve the same feat on the mountain that's often called "the savage mountain". Just weeks before the government appoints commissioners to the Tauranga City Council, local leaders still don't agree on the best way for the city to move forward. The council is set to be replaced by commissioners early next month following a string of problems - including bitter infighting among councillors and governance issues. Jean Bell reports.

The mayor of South Taranaki, Phil Nixon, says he's shocked to hear the police have launched a homicide inquiry after two people were found dead in Hawera early this morning. Emergency services, including two ambulances, were called to the property in Taranaki just before 3 o'clock. One person at the scene has been arrested and the police are not seeking anyone else. The entertainment promoter, Gray Bartlett, says immigration decision-makers are playing favourites over which overseas music and comedy acts are being allowed into the country. British comedian Russell Howard is about to tour New Zealand and other acts allowed in this summer include drag queen RuPaul and musicians appearing at Northern Bass in Mangawhai and the Bay Dreams festival. But Mr Bartlett, who is the vice-president of the Promoters Association, told our reporter Gill Bonnett no-one has spelt out what the criteria are for approval nor why his acts have been turned down.

Half of the people in a new union survey say Covid-19 had a negative impact on their working life. That's the finding of the Council of Trade Union's annual work-life survey, which shows a snapshot of people's work experiences. And 42 per cent of the people surveyed say workplace bullying is an issue - a number only marginally down on last year. Council of Trade Unions Secretary Melissa Ansell-Bridges says the working population feels vulnerable at work. She speaks with Mani Dunlop.
