John MacKenzie chats with Shane Knuth, KAP State Member for Hill, about the bizarre case of innocent cows being shot by the state government's department of environment after the cattle become lost in national parks.

The government is accused of not giving enough notice to graziers who need to muster and save their cattle, and instead, rangers are shooting branded and unbranded cows from helicopters, sometimes leaving them to die.

Some wet season conditions don't allow access to a national park, yet the cattle are shot anyway.

In a world where animals are protected from unnecessary harm or death, it seems strange to spend so much effort and funding to shoot a cow over saving it.

Ann's call was topical after John spoke with Dale Last, Queensland State Shadow Minister for Police and Corrective Services, about the increase in crime and anti-social behaviour in the Cairns community.

Callers have been ringing in with their passionate and sometimes frightening accounts of experiences with criminal activity, including robberies, car theft, home invasions, and bashings.

The community demands justice.

John MacKenzie chats with talkback caller Tony from the CBD, and Cairns Regional Council's Division 1 Representative Brett Moller, about the need for the council to put pressure on the state government to do more to solve Cairns' crime crisis. 

The idea was floated to open up shield street to traffic which would increase movement and, in turn, dissuade anti-social behaviour.

Around 10,000 fans are expected to fill Cazalys Stadium to enjoy the AFL match between St Kilda (Melbourne) and Port Adelaide.

It is a positive event for Cairns City and organisers hope it will kick-start a future long-term commitment to Australian Football Rules matches in the Far North Queensland.
