In Luke 9, Jesus sends the disciples out to minister in order to gain some experience while He is still with them to offer direction, encouragement, and correction. He knows the day will come when He has returned to the Father and His disciples will have to follow the Holy Spirit and continue the work of gospel ministry. So through their example, we learn that we, too, are a “Sent” people engaging a confused world.

Jesus' power over the symptoms and effects of sin proved His power over sin itself. In this account of the raising of Jairus' daughter and the healing of the woman with the issue of blood, we see that Jesus Christ alone has the power to take away our sin and restore us to spiritual health. In our text, we have the first resurrection Jesus performed, showing His power and authority over the ultimate foe -- death itself.

As we explore this text, we see the danger of religion without faith, and we also see God's complete sovereignty in the work of salvation.
