The Church here in the West is in decline and in desperate need for revival and renewal. Tallgrass Church is too! Our call to be the functioning Body of Christ in the midst of this culture is exceedingly difficult. So in this teaching, we discuss what it looks like to develop holy discontent with our culture, our church, and ourselves, that drives us into desperate prayer for God to move. Fire is one of the most enchanting things human eyes have ever seen. Since ancient times, gathering around a fire pit with friends is one of the richest of human of experiences. However, when handled improperly, fire burns. And, especially when combined with strong winds, fire destroys. In this teaching, we dive into the wild scene in Acts 2 when the disciples are first filled with the Holy Spirit. Wind and fire bring heaven and earth together in a way utterly out of reach for most of human history. And that scene 2000 years ago profoundly and directly impacts you today! What would happen to your church if you were taken out tomorrow? Kind of a morbid question, to be sure, but ultimately a very important one. And this is exactly the test given to the early church! What would happen with the high-profile defection of Judas Iscariot? Would the church crumble? Many overestimate their importance in their church -- believing that everything rests on their shoulders. Leaders can be especially prone to this error. However, probably even more detrimental to the health of the church are those of us who vastly underestimate our importance, who fail to develop personally or missionally while in less prominent roles. How does what Jesus did in the Bible 2000 years ago connect to me and my life today? Why did Jesus leave just when everything seemed to be about to take off? Why has he been gone so long? How will you seek truth in 2020? Twenty centuries ago, Wise Men from Arabia sought truth as they investigated and followed the star of promise. And they found what they sought!: the newborn Savior of the world -- Jesus the Christ. And quite naturally, in finding Who they sought, they "rejoiced exceedingly with great joy", and bowed in worship. That can be your experience now, this year as you seek truth, find Jesus, and live in joy and worship. This final Advent teaching reminds us that wise men and women still seek Him. Will you?

What will you be like when you grow older? Growing old well doesn't happen by accident. It's far more than just time. It takes preparation. It takes investment. This teaching looks at the story of Simeon and Anna during Jesus' dedication at the temple -- two older people who had done just that: grown old well. The Gospel of Jesus is indeed good news of great joy for both young and old alike! And it calls us to grow old well, now, and to invest in others so they can do the same -- generations blessing generations.
