Lasting creative work isn't built on shortcuts. It's built on skill, character, trust, and the willingness to keep showing up.
In this episode, Tyler and Steve start by celebrating two artists from Sacrament Tattoo being invited to the Brighton Tattoo Convention, which leads into a larger conversation about what it takes to build a healthy creative workplace. We talk about apprenticeships, developing younger artists, creating self-sufficient teams, and building a culture where people feel trusted enough to take real ownership of their work.
From there, the conversation turns toward AI and its growing role in tattooing, design, and the creative industries. We both see practical value in AI when it helps with technical or repetitive tasks, but question what happens when it becomes a shortcut for the parts of creative work that require skill, judgment, originality, and personal responsibility.
At the center of both conversations is the same question: what are we actually building? Whether you're developing a creative business, working alongside other artists, or deciding how to use new technology, the foundation matters. Lasting creative work and strong creative communities are built through skill, care, character, and consistency.

In Episode 9 of Behind the Mask, Tyler and Joseph talk about what it feels like to be a working creative during a period of rapid change and uncertainty. AI, unstable career paths, and a changing creative industry raise difficult questions about the future, but the conversation quickly turns inward.
They unpack the emotional side of making art, from using music to process difficult experiences to the pressure of creating, abandoning ideas, and constantly questioning whether your work is good enough. We look at why creatives can be far more critical of themselves than they would ever be of someone else.
The conversation ultimately lands on compassion. Changing the way we speak to ourselves can change the way we create, grow, and move forward. Instead of waiting for one major breakthrough, progress can come from small, repeatable choices that build trust in ourselves over time.

A convenience store, a design business, and a photography business don't seem to have much in common. But underneath the surface, we're all selling value in very different ways.
In this episode of Art of Pursuit, we break down how the businesses we work in shape the way we price, market, and deliver what we sell.
Jacob's experience running RJR, Dave's work through DL Media, and my experience building creative businesses give us three very different perspectives on the same fundamental question: what are we really selling?
We explore the difference between volume, expertise, and experience, and how each creates value for a customer in its own way. The product or service itself is only part of the equation. The way a business creates value determines how it can operate, compete, and ultimately make money.
The more closely we look at our businesses, the clearer it becomes that there isn't one universal pricing strategy. What works for a convenience store may make no sense for a photographer or designer, because the value being created is fundamentally different.

We never had a roadmap, and we're still figuring out where this goes.
In this episode, Tyler and Steve look toward the future of DoomForged and what it means to build something that can continue evolving as more people, ideas, and experiences become part of it. We talk about inspiring the next generation of creatives, creating opportunities outside of traditional career paths, and making room for other people to bring their own perspectives into the creative process.
We reflect on the mistakes we've made, the lessons we've learned, and why sharing those experiences doesn't mean telling someone else how to live or build their career. There is a difference between giving someone your answers and giving them enough perspective to find their own.
We also talk about how encouraging other creatives feeds back into our own work. Every new perspective has the potential to challenge what we believe, change what we're creating, and take the conversation somewhere we couldn't have reached on our own.
DoomForged has never been about having everything figured out. It's about continuing to build, staying open to what comes next, and allowing what we create together to evolve beyond what we originally imagined.
This is DoomForged, where we create meaning from the chaos around us. The world may be burning, but we are still building.

Everything you consume is shaping the person you're becoming.
In this episode of Behind the Mask, we continue the conversation around personal growth, creativity, and the habits that quietly define our lives. From nutrition and fitness to AI-generated content and digital consumption, we explore how the things we consume eventually influence the work we create.
Using fast food and AI "slop" as parallel examples, we discuss the difference between convenience and intention, why instant gratification often comes at the cost of long-term growth, and how our daily choices compound over time.
The conversation ultimately returns to the relationship we have with ourselves. By setting small, achievable goals and celebrating consistent progress, we build trust in our own ability to change. Creativity isn't just a result of inspiration. It's a reflection of the habits, standards, and mindset we choose to cultivate every day.

What is your work actually worth? Pricing isn't just about picking a number. It's about understanding the value you're creating and what the market is willing to pay for it.
In this episode of Art of Pursuit, we unpack the difficult process of pricing creative work and business services. We talk about market rates, perceived value, data, and the consequences of getting your price wrong.
We explore why pricing too low can hurt a business just as much as pricing too high, how perception influences what people are willing to pay, and why understanding the market can help separate an emotional guess from a sustainable price.
For creative entrepreneurs, knowing what to charge is rarely as simple as calculating the time it took to make something. The price becomes a reflection of the value, positioning, demand, and business model behind the work.
Because sometimes the biggest cost isn't charging too much. It's not knowing what your work is worth.

What if creativity isn't something we have, but something we learn to receive?
In this episode, Tyler and Steve reflect on where creativity comes from and what it means to see ourselves as part of something larger than our individual work. We talk about inspiration, spirituality, self-reflection, and the experiences that have shaped our belief that creative ideas can feel less like something we invent and more like something we discover.
We explore the relationship between the individual artist and the communities around them, and what happens when we stop treating creativity as something that belongs exclusively to us. Every experience, influence, conversation, and person we encounter becomes part of what we eventually create.
That perspective changes the way we think about creative ownership. If inspiration comes from somewhere beyond ourselves, then creating isn't only about expressing who we are. It's also about taking what we've received, transforming it through our own experiences, and giving something back to the people around us.
This is DoomForged, where we create meaning from the chaos around us. The world may be burning, but we are still building.

It’s so easy to convince ourselves that sacrificing our health is just part of chasing the dream.
In Episode 7 of Behind the Mask we talk about the moment Lyrizone/Joseph realized his lifestyle wasn’t just affecting his body. It was affecting his creativity, his confidence, his ability to perform, and even how he was showing up mentally every single day outside of musicianship.
Starting his fitness journey wasn’t about simply getting in shape.
It was very much about rebuilding a relationship that was neglected for far too long.
There always comes a point where you have to stop blaming your circumstances and start looking at your habits and either make a change or stop complaining.

Good work doesn't always happen on your schedule. Learning to work with your creative rhythm can change how you create.
In this episode of Art of Pursuit, we explore what it means to work at the pace creation inspires. We talk about work-life balance, creative flow, the environments we work in, and the rituals that help us stay productive without forcing the process.
We also explore the difference between having discipline and constantly pushing yourself, and how recognizing your own rhythms can help you build a more sustainable creative practice.
The goal isn't to work less or move slower. It's to understand what the work requires from you and create the conditions that allow you to keep showing up.

Some of the lessons we needed most were the ones we were too young to understand at the time.
In this episode, Tyler and Steve look back at their experiences performing music, working in groups, and learning how to create alongside other people. We talk about the realities of being young adults trying to find our place, the roles we played within creative groups, and the lessons we only began to recognize years after those experiences were over.
We explore what performing taught us about confidence, responsibility, communication, collaboration, and knowing when to lead or step back. The experiences weren't always easy, and we didn't always understand what they were teaching us, but they became part of the foundation for how we approach creative work today.
Looking back, some of the things that felt like failures, frustrations, or missed opportunities were actually teaching us how to work with people, handle expectations, and understand ourselves as creatives.
Sometimes you don't recognize the lesson while you're living it. You only understand what it meant after you've had enough distance to see where it led.
