Jose "Joe" Mari Lim Chan (born March 11, 1945) is a Filipino singer, TV host, songwriter and businessman in the sugar industry. He is currently chairman and CEO of Binalbagan Isabela Sugar Company, Inc. and A. Chan Sugar Corporation. He is also the chairman and president of Signature Music, Inc.

When I met Jose Mari Chan in a Zoom room with the Global Woman Club Manila and their wonderful director Rayla Allertsen, I knew, that I needed to take this opportunity and ask him to be my podcast guest and he said yes.

In this interview Jose Mari tells me about how his father left China and went to live in the Philippines, how he met his wife and why he loves Switzerland.

One of Chan's most famous song is "Christmas in our hearts" which has become a Filipino Christmas classic but many other Christmas songs and this phenomenon that earned him the unofficial title of “the king of Christmas".

In the Philippines, the build up to Christmas starts on September 1, and truth to be told, when Rayla recently arrived at Manila airport from a trip abroad, she was welcomed home with Jose Mari Chan's music. I was born in one of the most beautiful countries in the world and it took me many years to realize that. As a child growing up with my grandparents who didn't know how to drive a car, I didn't have anyone to take show me around and after I became a tour guide at the age of 20, I spent the next 11 years mostly living all over the world.

When I got assigned to an incoming tour from a group from Hongkong, I got very excited. I got the know my country while assisting the 20 contestants of the Miss Hongkong Contest 1991 and a few months later I showed my picture book country to a group of Germans who traveled with the Diner's Club and who had spent a lot of money on this tour.

Roman Probst is the Founder and Managing dDrector of Marketing Probst Gmbh. He is also a Start Up Coach at the ZHAW Zurich University of applied sciences.

I had negotiated this trip in exchange of hard work in the USA and when it actually happened, I was a little overwhelmed.

Kiera Chaplin is a top model, entrepreneur, actress and singer from Northern Ireland. She is the granddaughter of the English filmmaker Charlie Chaplin and the great-granddaughter of the American dramatist Eugene O'Neill.

I accompanied lots of round trips in the West of the USA. It's a beautiful part of the world and one goes from highlight to highlight. It took me a while to warm up to Los Angelos, I instantly loved San Francisco, I was always fascinated by Las Vegas and if I needed to choose, I would want to live in San Diego. I met Manfred Ritschard in New York in November 1986 because my friend Eliane who later became his wife wanted to meet up with me even though Manfred had other plans. The next time I met him at the helicopter pad in the Grand Canyon while our clients were flying over the gorge and he gave me hundreds of useful tips how to earn more money during my roundtrips in the West. We have known each other for many years and have lots in common; we both worked as tour guides for Kuoni, the largest Swiss tour operator.
