Publisher's Summary:
"Mother Goose in Prose" is a collection of twenty-two children's stories based on Mother Goose nursery rhymes. It was the first children's book written by author L. Frank Baum, published in 1897. The author himself gives a great introduction to the book: "Many of these nursery rhymes are complete tales in themselves, telling their story tersely but completely; there are others which are but bare suggestions, leaving the imagination to weave in the details of the story. Perhaps therein may lie part of their charm, but however that may be, I have thought the children might like the stories told at greater length, that they may dwell the longer upon their favorite heroes and heroines. For that reason, I have written this book."

Wonderful old fashioned stories
This wonderful collection of short stories by Frank Baum is another delightful addition to anyone who is a fan of his work. Based on famous Mother Goose rhymes, all stories are fascinating background tales of the various characters involved. I always get pleasure from reading these, as the author's imagination knows no bounds.
glad I did
I have a Nook, so I had to get a Kindle for PC to be able to read these books... glad I did... I read the first story in this book, about the little boy who lived with his aunt and uncle, and took a sixpense to leave and not return... Sing a Song of Sixpense... I had never heard this version, I think I will love this book!! can't wait to read the rest of the stories!!! :-)
Stories to back up nursery rhymes
This is an excellent book with stories to back up the origional nursery rhymes. It is very interesting and fun to read to youngsters.
excellent read
I read this just to get a feel for the origins of the mother goose tails I was told as a child and LOVED the research that the author had done on each individual mother goose tail.
This is a fun relaxed book - fun to read/
