What if preparing for motherhood began long before a positive pregnancy test?
In this inspiring conversation, I sit down with movement visionary and founder of HoopYogini™, Jocelyn Gordon, to explore the profound connection between embodiment, fertility, conscious conception, and motherhood.
Jocelyn shares her own journey into dance, yoga, and embodied mothering, and explains why learning to listen to the wisdom of our bodies may be one of the greatest gifts we can offer ourselves—and our future children. We discuss how movement helps women reconnect with intuition, regulate the nervous system, and cultivate the kind of presence that supports every stage of the motherhood journey, from preconception through postpartum.
Together, we explore feminine embodiment, joyful movement, peaceful birth, and the power of preparing not just our bodies, but our hearts and spirits, for motherhood.
Whether you're hoping to conceive, currently pregnant, newly postpartum, or simply longing to feel more alive and at home in your body, this conversation offers a beautiful invitation to reconnect with the wisdom that's been within you all along.
Jocelyn Gordon is the founder of HoopYogini™ and Bhakti Boogie® Yoga, two innovative movement practices that weave together dance, yoga, meditation, and feminine embodiment. Dubbed a "Yoga Rebel" by Yoga Journal, Jocelyn has toured nationally with Wanderlust, presented six times at the Bali Spirit Festival, worked with Academy Award-winning actresses Halle Berry and Marisa Tomei, and served as the meditation guide for Essence Magazine's Virtual Wellness House.
A mother of two daughters and passionate advocate for peaceful birth and maternal wellbeing, Jocelyn helps women prepare for motherhood through conscious conception, embodiment, and holistic wellness. She also mentors coaches, healers, and movement educators in bringing their transformational work into the world through online courses and teacher trainings.

What does motherhood look like when it arrives through birth, adoption, and surrogacy?
In this episode of MotherTongue, I sit down with midwife and Born Free co-founder, Sara Rosser to explore her unique journey as a biological mother, adoptive mother, and three-time surrogate. Together, we discuss the joys, challenges, and profound transformations that accompany these different paths to motherhood.
Sara shares what she learned from carrying babies for other families, raising children who came to her through both birth and adoption, and how these experiences shaped her understanding of love, attachment, family, and mothering.
This heartfelt conversation is a reminder that while the paths into motherhood may differ, the transformation of becoming a mother is universal.
In this episode, we discuss:
• Birth, adoption, and surrogacy
• Attachment, connection, and letting go
• The many ways families are formed
• What motherhood has taught us about love

This is part II of the interviews I conducted last fall.
During my two months in Uganda, I had the privilege of working alongside the extraordinary midwives at Mother Health International, a birth house rooted in compassion, skill, and deep commitment to the mothers they serve.
In this episode, recorded outside the birth house with the sounds of chickens wandering in the background, I sit down with several midwives to hear their stories — how they found their way into this calling, what they love most about their work, and the realities and challenges facing the women in their community.
These conversations are honest, heartfelt, and humbling. We talk about resilience, resourcefulness, and the shared devotion to mothers that transcends geography and culture. Being there reminded me that while birth unfolds in very different contexts around the world, the heart of midwifery — presence, trust, and care — is universal.
I’m honored to share these voices with you.
I worked closely with midwife Monica, who is trying to further her education. If you'd like to donate towards her tuition, you can do so here.
And if you're a mama feeling lost, overwhelmed, burnt out, or disconnected from yourself, I can help. Book a free discovery call here and let's explore working together.

In this profound and intimate conversation, I sit down with Claire Eccleston—grandmother, longtime homebirth midwife, Spinning Babies® Approved Trainer, and founder of Womb Rhythms, an online school devoted to the traditional art of BirthCraft.
Claire shares her journey into midwifery and how her own free births shaped an unwavering trust in the intelligence of the body and baby—while simultaneously holding the sobering truth that birth carries real risk. We explore the radical question she lives by: Can we hold absolute trust and the possibility of death at the same time—and find peace and responsibility within both?
We talk candidly about the tensions between being a midwife and being a mother, the guilt of divided presence, and the maternal archetypes of martyr, supermom, and MotherFly as lived experiences rather than ideals. Claire also names what’s missing in modern midwifery education: spiritual discernment, deep listening, and knowing when and when not to act.
We close with her work in Womb Craft™ bodywork and somatic sexology, unpacking consent as a layered, embodied, and lifelong practice.
This is a conversation for both birthworkers and mothers and anyone walking the edge between trust and responsibility, devotion and selfhood, life and mystery.
In this episode, Corina Fitch is joined by Dr. Sophie Brock, a Motherhood Studies Sociologist, single mother, and cultural analyst based in the Blue Mountains, Australia. Sophie brings a powerful sociological lens to motherhood, exploring how maternal identity, guilt, anger, and burnout are shaped by social and cultural systems—not personal failure.
Together, they explore Sophie’s matrescence journey, the evolution of her Motherhood Studies Practitioner Certification, and the critical distinction between motherhood as a social institution and mothering as an empowered, relational practice. The conversation also dives into mothering as resistance, the maternal anger–guilt cycle, and ways mothers can interrupt shame and reclaim agency. Listeners are invited into a rich exploration of motherhood as resistance, the intersection of mothering and social justice, and the ways maternal guilt and anger are produced and sustained within patriarchal systems.

In this mini-episode, I look back on 18 years of matrescence as my oldest turned 18 — and I realized something powerful: the 3 Keys of my MotherFly Matrix were given to me by my daughters.
* Nehama, my firstborn, taught me about Container — the practices of self-care and self-compassion that hold me steady.
* Jade, my second, awakened Creativity — the fuel that lights my passion and keeps me connected to something bigger than myself.
* Amaya, my third, gave me the terrible gift of postpartum depression and anxiety — and with it, the necessity of Community. She taught me I couldn’t do this alone, that I had to learn to ask for and receive support.
These 3 Keys — Container, Creativity, and Community — are the antidote to the blocks that keep so many mothers stuck: shame, lack, and isolation.
If you’ve ever felt lost, overwhelmed, or like you’re carrying it all alone, this episode is for you. 💙

In this episode, I interview 6 mothers who received a Closing of the Bones Ceremony from me. Variations of this ceremony are done in cultures all around the world. The version that I studied in depth is from traditional Moroccan postpartum care.
More than just a nourishing blend of treatments, this ceremony is a way to honor and acknowledge the significance of this rite of passage and the new role as a mother. It's an opportunity for mothers to pause, integrate, and listen to what they wish to release and what they wish to call in.
Throughout our conversation, common threads emerge that speak to the sanctity of birth and motherhood as well as the power of being witnessed and held during such a pivotal moment. I hope you enjoy.
