While not necessarily bad, it consumes 100% of time and energy, making it hard to execute new or strategic goals. While it may seem impossible to adopt new best practices, we don't need to radically change what we're doing. We just need to nudge it in the right direction. The goal is to incorporate small change that can help further change as time goes by.

In this episode of #MotivatingMondays, we take a closer look at the challenges faced in the labour market by those with cognitive differences as well as those with mental health challenges. Research from the Labour Market Information Council reveals that over 90% of Canadian job postings require social-emotional skills that can unintentionally screen out neurodivergent candidates. Over 40% also contain complex application processes or confusing jargon.

Only 46% of adults with mental health-related disabilities are employed, compared to 80% of those without any sort of disability.

In this episode of #MotivatingMondays, we take a closer look at career laddering for the client or student who wants the quickest return to the job market possible. Entry-level jobs are it risk from AI and other forms of automation but career laddering provides a pathway to better, more secure employment. Even for something like construction, a person might start off as a labourer; then complete a pre-apprenticeship program in carpentry; and eventually a Red Seal ticket as a carpenter. I think we can all agree that a carpenter has a much stronger labour market attachment than a construction labourer.

In this episode of #MotivatingMondays, we take a closer look at the challenges introverts face in a job market designed for extroverts. Job search by its very nature requires people to draw on the skills, abilities and natural disposition of extroverts, which can be a challenge for their introvert counterparts. We need to help introverted clients understand they are being judged against candidates who are more comfortable articulating their strengths. Just as with all job search candidates we need to emphasize there is nothing wrong with discussing their strengths, touting their achievements and making a sincere connection with a prospective employer.

For the first time in four years, Canada’s labour market is showing signs of renewed momentum with job vacancies increasing for the first time since 2022. Recently, Statistics Canada reported 506,700 vacant positions nationwide, an increase of 11,800 jobs or 2.4 per cent compared to the previous quarter.
