Jesus Christ became a man, just as we are, and this should encourage us that we can pray just as Christ does. Jesus cursed the fig tree in Mark 11 because it withheld and obstructed Him from getting breakfast; and in the same way He tells us that we can pray for mountains that obstruct our way to be removed. He is telling us that there are obstacles that can be removed by your prayers that would not be removed if you didn't pray. Obstacles that are keeping your loved ones from being saved and churches from being planted in the darkest regions of the world.

Brethren, remember that one of the greatest evidences of a lack of faith is that you don't pray, because if you really have faith in a prayer-hearing God, you are going to be praying.
