Matthew 21:1-11, Mark 11:1-11, Luke 19:28-40, John 12:12 -19
Pastor Andy deHoog
As Jesus approaches Jerusalem for the last time, he instructs two of his disciples to obtain a specific donkey, telling them that if anyone questions them, they are to say simply, “The Lord needs it.” Cloaks are placed on the donkey and spread on the ground, along with palm branches, creating a kind of ‘royal red carpet’ as Jesus rides into Jerusalem as the humble, yet triumphant, King of Israel. The crowds shout praises, including the word “Hosanna!”, which means “Save us, please!”
The whole city is stirred, and the people ask, “Who is this?”
The answer given is, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.”
