Episode Notes
Podcast #2, October 2021:
In Martin Luther King’s last speech, he articulated many things which were originally shared in the gospel of Matthew, Chapter 24 where Jesus and the disciples discussed the end times.
In this podcast, we’ll take this speech apart and talk about how both the scripture and this speech especially speaks to our times and the times we may face soon.
This will be a basis for future podcasts. It will allow me to set the tone for many of your questions to be answered from scripture. Of course, none of us know the future and in fact, Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated the very next day. But I think his contemporary outlook on his peaceful struggle for rights and our battle for survival have many corollaries and lessons to teach us today.
So, listen as we examine this challenge to us even today, some 53 years later. The battle may be for different reasons and for a much bigger cause, but the words of encouragement and inspiration are still appropriate to examine.
His relationship to our Father, His Son Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit is the base and power for these words of challenge to us today!
I don’t know what will happen now! We’ve got some difficult days ahead:Not knowing but recognizing that urgent issues were/are at handMatthew 24: 32-35 (32) “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. (33) Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. (34) Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. (35) Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.Explain a shadow project it’s effect ahead and not behind. A shadow is a forecaster not a Monday morning quarterback. The battle must be fought by people’s driving convictions of caring for their brother and sisters or their selfish personal ambition. Which would it be? (Power or caring) (following this world’s leader, the devil who is and will always be bent on power and destruction of God and His world or the Father, Son and Holy Spirit who are committed to survival for all through salvation! The days will be stressful.Because it will call upon men and women, peoples of all nations and colors within a nation to take sides. Either because they agree with the issue at hand and a desired outcome or because they simply do not act, thereby giving credence to status quoBecause disagreement/conflict, strife, and division cause some to take rolls of conflict or quiet and peaceful changeBecause, in the final analysis, people do not like making decisions. Fence sitting is the preferred position, is socially correct and has no connection to, or commitment to any actions upon important or relevant issues or outcomesDeuteronomy 30:19This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may liveBut it really doesn’t matter with me now, because I’ve been to the mountain top.Doesn’t matter; I know who’s in charge and who holds tomorrowWhy, because I’ve been to the mountain top seeing the vision and heard the voice of my heavenly Father and His Son and delivered by the assuring and affirming voice of the Holy Spirit.Like anyone, I would like to live” But he had seen the results, perhaps that of a scene in heaven or that one day, this nation would elect a black man as president by both whites and blacks. But if he were to live, a choice in God’s Hand, he would see the reality of what he had seen in a vision. So, his certainty depended on the giver of that vision which was the Godhead and who made that promise and His/Their promise can always be counted on to come to pass “Don’t care as this is God’s work” This is His sequence of events and promise!“But I’m not concerned about that now, I just want to do God’s will”Only God’s will is my guiding force in my life. I need to seek it and listen to it and live out His instructionsIt’s His will that is our first responsibility to follow to bring us to the vision and promised future“And he’s allowed me to go up to the mountain, and I’ve looked over, And I’ve seen the promise land!”“I’ve looked” Searching“He’s allowed me to see” Rewarded my seeking and listening“The promise land” the vision“I may not get there with you, but I want you to know tonight but we, as a people, will get to the promise land”That plan is in motion; I may or may not be with you here on earth, but the plan doesn’t depend on me being here with you. It depends upon the vision giver and the promise makerThe outcome is the vision and as a people we will get to that reality/vision together in that future time set by the author of that promised outcomeThe vision of the final outcome was, and in our case is a promise from God Himself! So, I’m happy tonight. I’m not worried about anything, I’m not fearing any manHappy; content, assured and confident in the outcomeThe plan is set by a power larger than INo man can alter the outcome, cause its demise or change the completion“Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord”“Mine eyes”; Personally, I’ve seen!“The coming of the Lord” He is the final Word and the author of the outcome here on earth and in heaven His promises are trustworthy and unshakable, and I’ve witnessed them in my own life through my personal relationship with my Lord!
