ARCHITECTING Podcast - Career + Lifestyle Mentoring for Architects looking to move beyond overwhelm and make a difference through design

Move from Toxic Positivity to a Supportive Workplace

Listen Later

Should the workplace always be a positive place? Glossing over negative or difficult experiences sends a message to deep-six instead of exploring them. Let's move past the "I'm fine" culture of toxic positivity and get real with each other.

  1. Discern between appreciating the growth opportunity of a failure vs. pretending things are OK.
  • Negative experiences and emotions need to be tolerated. Moving past them means naming them, finding the root cause and opportunities for change.
  • Don't rush to slap a label on what you are going through. Be willing to be vulnerable and explore it.
  • Forcing the positive is judging the current situation.
  • Give comfort, free of the obligation of advice.
  • There is no expiration date on what you are working through. The integrity of the experience is more valuable than the speed of the bounce back.
  • Stay Inspired,

    Angela
