Movie Date Night

For this week’s Movie Date Night, Greg shares with Lauren one of his favorite romantic comedies, Neil Simon’s The Goodbye Girl (1977). In this episode our hosts discuss the legalities of a single mother and daughter sharing a sublet with a strange man, smart mouthed child actors, shoehorned romance arcs, an offensively gay portrayal of Shakespeare’s Richard III, and the odd structural beats of this film which won Richard Dreyfuss his Oscar. This week, Lauren introduces Greg to Four Lions, a 2010 British satire following a rag-tag team of want-to-be terrorists. They find it’s hard not to laugh at the mixture of ignorance and incompetency amongst the cast of characters, from exploding crows, Rubber Dingy Rapids, to shooting a wookie (or was it a bear?). Greg and Lauren explore the ill-conceived notions and poorly laid plans of this group of extremists without a cause and find humor even in the darkest places. Music: http://www.bensound.com
