Nowadays, with youtube, smartphones, tv spots, big blockbusters and oscar season, seems like Trailers for films are everywhere we look. There’s even multiple trailers throughout the course of a film’s release and not to mention their international trailers as well. Movie fans live for trailers… especially big budget films. Comic Con has basically become a trailer infused convention where people wait hours and even days just to get a glimpse of a teaser trailer for the upcoming comic book movies like Avengers Age of Ultron and Batman V. Superman Dawn of Justice just to name a few. Even special announcements and dates for when trailers are coming out… who wasn’t excited to see the Interstellar trailer when they announced it’s release. Even to go so far that people would buy tickets to a movie not to watch the movie but watch the trailer instead. Okay well QUESTION...Trailers are basically sneak peeks of what the movie we are about to watch… am I correct?

Then why the hell do trailers nowadays basically give away the whole movie or deceive the audience on the tone of the film? I dunno what’s going on with the marketing for a lot of movies, but seems like they really want to give away the best parts in the trailers to draw the audience in or make us believe that the movie is depicted one way when in fact has nothing to do with the film. I’m not saying all trailers are awful… just this year there have been some very awesome trailers to be excited for… and some not so awesome to be excited for. What were some trailers that stood out to you guys this year if you can remember?

For me.. Guardians of the Galaxy created just enough buzz where you weren’t sure the whole story other than a group of misfits coming together… but they hadn’t released the voices of Rocket or Groot and they had Hooked on a Feeling as their theme song and memorable quotes like what a bunch of a-holes and then I saw the movie and wow I was blown away. Perfect niche… now thats the nerd side… however the same did not work for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. My first initial reaction when I first saw The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was of course excitement but a little confusion as the trailer was jammed packed with a lot of interesting visuals but not sure how it would all fit together in the end. Then when I saw the film… what seemed to be a very important plot in the trailer didn’t show up in the film… Oscorp spying on Peter Parker… and wondered what happened. This isn’t the only movie this year that had bad trailers and bad marketing hurt a movie. Look at Live. Die. Repeat. Edge of Tomorrow. I really enjoyed this movie.. but wasn’t thrilled about watching it because the trailer depicted as this super serious scifi looping film and after Oblivion, which scored low on Rotten Tomatoes, many people were expecting a repeat of the same movie… however no where in the trailer or marketing did they even hint at this movie having humor of any kind. So my surprise when I found myself laughing at some points in film or having Emily Blunt be as bad ass as she turned out to be and again felt deceived by the trailer.

Now I know the majority of the trailers are not cut by the director themselves or even the studios. They hire a third party production company who “specializes” in cutting scenes from the movies and turning them into trailers. I had a professor who, on the side, did that for a living and he would always mention how much he hated doing it cuz Trailers nowadays aren’t just used to just market the film… but to be mini movies in itself. Rant: With Adam Sandler making a deal with Netflix, will this change cinema as we know it?

But being a rebel has never been one of them

He’s an actor who always plays it safe

taking roles that he knows will only appeal to his base

BUT, before we start there

you need to know three facts

that will explain why Sandler is at

the center of the controversy

FACT 1: Movie studios DO NOT own or operate Movie Theaters

1948: United States v. Paramount Pictures

known as the Hollywood Antitrust Case

changed Hollywood by removing the monopolistic control

that Studios had over Cinemas.

Basically, the US government told Hollywood to go fuck itself and STOP touching Cinemas in their no-no place.

FACT 2: THEATER OWNERS ARE AFRAID OF PIRACY

Since the 1970s: Theater owners attempted to blockade the release of popular technology, such as VHS, DVD, BLURAY, and now… the Internet.

FACT 3: INTERNET NEARLY KILLED THE THEATER

Sales are down and Theater owners are scared of ILLEGAL STREAMING SITES, TORRENTING, AND NETFLIX.

You name it, they’re scared of everything because…

2014 WORST YEAR ON RECORD

So I’d like to ask you guys, why do you think sales are down?

There are many theories revolving the loss of revenue,

I believe theater owners are assholes and jacking up prices to make up for their lost in revenue.

Which is what’s leading to the drop of attendance.

Which is the equivalent of:

An endless circlejerk that only ends with a dislocated member

You’re not gonna attend a fancy theater that ends up costing you $50 for a date night.

Don’t believe me? Go to a /quote/ ghetto /unquote/ theater and buy a ticket from there:

Tickets drop from $18 to $6

Which is where NETFLIX has making a killing!!!

The company was established in 1997 in California

renovating the DVD subscription model AND

upgrading to digital streaming IN 2009

Which was basically copy and pasting from online piracy sites

The only difference between online piracy sites was the speed in which you could watch a film on Netflix…

and, of course, the legality of it.

So why is Adam Sandler important in all this?

Adam Sandler is the top grossing theater celebrity in the US and overseas

Hard to believe, I know!

But he grosses more money by just showing his stupid pineapple shaped head than most comedians.

And he knows this!

Makes movies for vacations

He’s also #1 on Forbes most overpaid actors

Because theaters know that Pineapple head makes money and the studios want it!

So the fact that on October 2nd,

teamed up with Harvey Weinstein

THEEE BIGGEST FILM PRODUCER IN HOLLYWOOD

to make FOUR Adam Sandler movies…

YOU GODDAMN RIGHT THAT MOVIE STUDIOS AND MOVIE THEATERS RECOGNIZED THIS AS A HUUUUUUGE MOVE

BECAUSE, Netflix has also promised SAME DAY RELEASES in theaters and streaming.

Rant: Why do all videogame film adaptations suck? Will their be a good one in the future?

Notes:

For many decades… many studios have tried to do the impossible. To make movies based on videos games good. So far, none have really reached its potential. I mean, there are some that are decent or good, however not great. But! There is hope, with WARCRAFT directed by MOON director, Duncan Jones which comes out 2016 and stars Ben Foster, Tobey Kebbell and a slew of incredible actors. Does that mean WARCRAFT is our last hope? Well like Yoda said... “No, There is another” with Michael Fassbender’s Assassins Creed, but we are going to have to wait for that one because it just got pushed back to an unknown date. I still have hope that it can potentially be an entertaining and bad ass adaptation, but it being pushed back doesn’t show much. I’m gonna be in denial and say that they are perfecting it. Either way we won’t know how these films are until these movies are released. Until then, lets rant about the ones that have been out and have sucked beyond sucked. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the highest rating a movie based on a video game has gotten, was 44% and that was Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, which as you remember, was a CGI Animated film, which it’s easy to talk about animated video game movies, just look at Street Fighter 2 and Final Fantasy Advent Children, those movies are amazing, so this RANT is strictly about LIVE ACTION video game movies. Now, obviously, some people enjoy video game movies. The Resident Evil Franchise has done pretty well for itself having made 5 movies with a 6th one on the way. And there are some franchises that should have never been made.. I’m looking at you BloodRayne! Damn you Uwe Boll you son of a bitch.

Do you guys have a movie based on a video game that you enjoy?

Mortal Kombat is probably one of my favorites. Its silly, and though it is PG-13 while the game would be MA, still does a good job telling the story, much better than its counterpart of the live action Street Fighter. That was a piece of shit.

The first video game movie was Super Mario Bros. Though, as kids we all loved it… it really screwed everything up about what we loved about Mario Bros. With the mushroom kingdom as this post whatever that was city. Goombas that weren’t Goombas, Yoshi, and everything else. However, it was still a fun fuck up of a movie. I sometimes wonder if they would have done Super Mario Bros. justice, that the trend of video game movies would have been a lot better. Let us compare this to the age of comic book movies, where comic book movies were shit until finally someone decided to make a good one, people argue that Blade started this and others say X-Men did, either way, look at the age we are in… where comic book movies reign over all. We just need that one major hit.. and studios will take notice and you know Disney will make their own video gaming movie studio and take video games adaptations seriously.

What are some of your.. to put it nicely… worst adaptations of video games?

Is there a video game or game franchise you hope to see on the big screen anytime soon?

Well… though we can enjoy some of the video game adaptations, the fact is, none of these can be taken seriously. Until, one studio decides that there is potential big money to do a great adaptation and make the new age of video game movies, we have to deal with what we have been given. Hopefully… the future is bright. We will just have to wait and see.

Deadpool points at that and laughs, he’s the Jester at a Kings Court

While Batman, X-Men, etc. are dark and brooding characters,

DP travels back in time to the 60s to party it up with an alcoholic Ton Stark

He’s obsessed with the internet and media and LOOOOOVES Chimichanga’s!

So you can understand the Zeitgeist he represents

Deadpool: Origins

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Released in 2009

Ryan Reynolds was tapped to play Wade Wilson

Reynolds sounds and looked the part, more importantly: huge fan!

So all the fan boys got excited

BUT THEN!

The toy, the film art, and the work print got leaked!

IMPORTANT!!

I want you to remember this point,

that studio Fox got sooooo pissed off about the leak, BUT!

It was the fans that were more angry than they were

One of the single most let downs of that movie was how they portrayed Deadpool

Deadpool was bullshit

BUT! Credit where credits due,

They got Wade Wilson down to the T

Ryan Reynolds backlash

The worst thing about Origins is that

Reynolds when asked, is clearly the biggest DP nerd in Hollywood

When asked, he’d say it he was the biggest fan,

but that Origins’ Deadpool wasn’t the real Deadpool

When rumors of the film started up, he kept saying

“It would have nothing to do with the Origins Deadpool”

At one point, I heard that the plot would be Deadpool jumping movies and killing that version of Deadpool.

June of this year, prior to comic-con

Reynolds is rumored to leaves Deadpool,

Which cancelled the Comic-Con trailer screen

People say this was a rumor, but as of yet Reynolds isn’t confirmed to reprise the role

Finally get to… footage being leaked

Tim Miller and Rhett Reese wrote the short story showing Joe Kelly’s Deadpool in all his glory!

Reynolds in full rotoscope animation jumping into a moving car and murdering all of the thugs!

Remember: This isn’t the first leak that’s happened in regards to Deadpool and that’s the point that everyone forgets!

Rumors: Intentionally leaked, while it might be true

Fox spent money trying to shut it all down, sending copyright claims to ALL possible video sites online.

Then!

BLUR STUDIOS, the CGI company that did all the work rotoscoping

Released the HD version of the footage

Work was being misrepresented online
