The first project in James Gunn's new DCU - Creature Commandos - has wrapped its airing of season 1 on Max. Those of you who have been following me know that I have been deliriously excited for the DCU - and in particular, James Gunn's upcoming Superman film which I named my most anticipated upcoming film of 2025 - but I'd be lying if Creature Commandos was one of the most anticipated projects of their initial slate for me just because it felt too similar to The Suicide Squad. This show definitely explains why that is but I went into this more curious about it being the start of the DCU than anything. I reviewed the first 2 episodes and LOVED them, so it's time to catch back up with the show 5 weeks or so later. This review will contain SPOILERS.

The whole point and fun of these lists are that they are so subjective; this is a list of MY top 10 most anticipated movies of the year and they’re on the list because of MY taste. 2024 has now come and gone... which means it is time for my slew of end of the year rankings! 2024 was a huge year of change in my life and 2025 will continue to be so... but it will also likely be a year of huge change for the format of this podcast and my content creation, especially once we get towards the summer. However, it isn't quite that time yet so let's reflect on 2024!

My annual best of the year list has been delayed until the end of January simply because there are too many films that had a wide U.S. release date in 2024 that I won't have a chance to see for a few weeks, because of delayed releases in both the U.K. and Asia. That's how you know the movies have truly bounced back! In the meantime, I'll be kicking things off with a double-header: my top 5 most surprising and top 5 most disappointing movies of 2024! I'll be starting off with my most disappointing and then ending this episode off on more of a positive note, with my most surprising films of the year. 2024 was a huge mixed bag of a year of movies, if you ask me, and this list definitely reflects that. These are NOT my least favorite and favorite films of the year, but rather films that fell short of and exceeded my expectations respectively. He's back! Sonic the Hedgehog 3 raced into U.S. theaters last week... but it's having a bit of a, ironically, slow global rollout. I finally had the chance to see the film and when it comes to the Sonic movies, I've mildly enjoyed them. I definitely preferred 2 to 1 but the CGI cast is fun and more Jim Carrey action is always welcome. Sonic 3 had A LOT of hype and buzz around it and seemingly, the film delivered for most fans. The third and final season of What If…? completed its 8-day run on Disney+ just recently. As a huge fan of the MCU, it’s been no secret that my interest in the projects I’m not as excited about in this universe has been waning over the past year. And unfortunately, What If…? is absolutely one of those projects because I just don’t think this show has taken full advantage of its very cool premise at all. Something about the format of this show has never quite worked for me. Well, the show has now ended. Was the third season the strongest of the three? Welp. Sony did it again! Due to a delayed release where I live, I only just got a chance to see... Kraven the Hunter: the latest bad comic book movie from Sony. This universe has been a total disaster and the box office performance of Kraven has cemented the incomparable legacy that this universe is gonna have. It may not be over just yet, but it does seem like Sony is going to be taking a pause to regroup and restart, in some way, an attempt to make a connected standalone Spider-Man universe, outside of the MCU. With surefire hits like Tom Holland's Spider-Man 4 and Beyond the Spider-Verse still on the way, Sony has no reason to sell the onscreen rights of the character back to Marvel but their recent failures certainly have them clamoring for more hits. In this episode, I'll be covering the bamboozling Kraven the Hunter film we just got and the main reasons that this universe went so wrong!

The King has returned! Barry Jenkins’ Lion King prequel - Mufasa: The Lion King - has released in theaters and I had the chance to check it out just recently. The Lion King is my favorite animated film of all-time but beyond further reflection and pondering, the remake was quite a big letdown that lacked much of the soul and creativity of that original animated film. That’s why I was very skeptical about Barry Jenkins’ prequel and I wanted nothing more than to be excited about more movies set in the continuity of The Lion King. Barry Jenkins’ involvement certainly had my curiosity piqued though. Did the movie win me over, or is this yet another soulless live-action Disney film? Find out in this review!

Hey everyone… it’s finally time to believe a man can fly again! The first teaser trailer for James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film, set to hit theaters July 11, 2025 and the first film in the rebooted DCU, has now dropped online from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures. Anyone who’s listened to more than one episode probably knows that I’ve been deliriously excited for James Gunn’s Superman, as Gunn has always and is still making movies that resonate with me emotionally. He does the same for TV as I’ve even been really enjoying the Gunn-written Creature Commandos, the soft launch of the DCU that is ongoing on Max. Superman has also been one of my favorite characters since I was a child so naturally, this was a match made in heaven as far as I’m concerned. Does the trailer live up to the hype, or does it fall short of expectations and make me cornered for the DCU? Find out in this initial reaction to the trailer!

The Karate Kid franchise finally returns to the big screen after 15 years, with the upcoming release of Karate Kid: Legends, which will see the long-anticipated team up of Ralph Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso and Jackie Chan’s Mr. Han. I, of course, love the original Karate Kid and am a huge Cobra Kai fan (with the exception of this final season so far), but… I have had little to no interest in this film. That’s because I honestly think Cobra Kai has milked this universe and its characters pretty much to their maximum potential, and I found the decision to include Daniel to be pretty cynical.
