The return to Málaga, 60 years later, of photographer Joel Meyerowitz.
Welcome to “Photographer on journey”, the podcast of the exhibition “Joel Meyerowitz. Europe 1966–1967”, presented at the Museo Picasso Málaga from 15 June to 15 December 2024.
Meyerowitz spends six of his twelve European months in Málaga, drawn into the world of the Escalona family, Romani flamenco musicians who turn cante into lived narrative. Recordings, rehearsals, neighbours coming and going, laughter in a modest room: the camera captures a shared atmosphere, not a staged scene. Flamenco becomes both subject and method—an art of rhythm, transmission, and collective memory.
Credits: An original Museo Picasso Málaga production. Written and directed by Bibiana Ricciardi. Sound design by Tomás Borrini. Narrated by Emma Reynolds.
